BARNSLEY lad John Stones made his England debut in Friday night's World Cup warm-up against Peru.

The Thurlstone lad, who celebrated his 20th birthday last Wednesday, made a £3 million switch from his hometown club to Everton last year and has gone on to shine in the Premier League under Roberto Martinez's guidance.

Stones played 26 times in Everton's defence last term and was named in Roy Hodgson's 30-man provisional squad as a standby, before the England boss trims his side down to 23 on Tuesday morning.

Having been a regular in the under-21 national side, Stones made his full senior debut when he replaced Everton team mate Leighton Baines in the 75th minute in the 3-0 Wembley win.

If Stones does not make the 23-man cut, the ex-Penistone Grammar School pupil will have the choice of returning home or travelling to Brazil with the playing squad to experience the tournament from the dugout.
