AN 81-year-old man was confronted by two unknown men who forced their way into his home and robbed him.

At around 3.50am on Monday 19 May the man heard a noise outside his home Cedar Crescent, Kendray.

When he opened the door, two men with their faces covered forced entry into the property, knocking the man backwards.

They demanded money and sprayed him in the face with an unknown liquid before taking the man’s wallet which contained a substantial amount of cash.

A police spokesman said: "Fortunately the man did not sustain any serious injuries but is incredibly shaken and upset by the incident."

The men are described as white, both of a slim build and approximately 5ft 11ins and 5ft 9ins tall. They both spoke with a local accent.

Anyone who has information on the incident is asked to call police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 quoting incident number 108 of 19 May 2014.

What can be done about these sort of crimes? Not much in reality, the only thing we did have has been taken away. These cowards need to see crimes like this can and will not be tolerated in our society. A sharp shock to those caught, hard labour and public humiliation carried out by the family of the victim. That may work,as at present there is no deterant. Poor guy,81 years old and this happens. Its time something was done. Where are the politicians on this subject? In thier gilded cages no doubt.

I am feeling sick reading this type behaviour to a old gentlemen.

These thugs should be publicly put in stocks in the town centre and flogged.

What will happen nothing. The police will give this incident a crime number and move on.

Society is broken and Sid has some of the answers but politicians don't care.

The police powers are undermined by the courts these days. I personally have always found the police to be excellent when I have had dealings with them. The people who can change our society are the lawyers and courts. All you get from the lawyers are sob stories about how bad the criminals lives are, hence thier unsociable behaviour, the lawyers get well paid for that too, from the public purse, yes the very same purse the poor old guy has probobly paid into all his working life. It cant be so difficult to correct the law system and make sure that the lawyesr and courts are on the side of the victim. The problems are partly caused by the law system as they get paid for defending and spaeking upfor the criminals. It wont ever change, too many people are taking advantage and getting rich out of the system as it stands. What with all the benefit cuts(which I mostly agree with) crime will rise. Hold on to your hats, its going to be a bumpy ride. The upper level politicians have a lot to answer for.

Sad to say but this is why people take the law into their own hands. If the bullying cowards are caught little or no real punishment will be handed out to them. They need a damn good hiding when caught.

That, @ Rubydoo, is exactly what a policeman once said to me. They know the justice systems against us all.

Some poor old fella at that age, having worked/paid his taxes all those years, shouldn't be exposed to the horrors of Kendray. Poor fella, find these subhumans & crucify them.

If I under correctly the mans life savings was stolen. It was under £2000. Surely something can be set up for people to help him out. If everyone put in a quid or two he would have his mobey back. Poor thing shouldn't have to go through anything like that. I think the police do their best but I've seen someone last year clearly on smack at night trying to get in doors all the way up street... police took several calls and nearly an hour to rock up, they need more funds for staff. Glad people's doors were locked, what a scary situation. I hope the gentleman in this incident is ok. Xx

So sorry to hear about this, yet another elderly person being terrorised in their own home. My heart goes out to him and his family.

I like to think I a normal law-abiding person but this really makes my blood boil. These low life need to be locked in room with the poor man’s family. Let them try and 'talk' some sense into them.

mark, he lost his wife of 60 years only a few weeks earlier so he hardly slept, he heard a noise and thought it was the cat scratching to come in, so he opened the door and they barged him threatening him. i wish someone would grass these 2 up so someone can pay them a visit before the police. this mans life has been ruined, they took all that he had left after paying for his wifes funeral. so if anyone knows any names please let someone know

Hello people, yes a vile act of cruelty against a senior citizen, I run an electrical and security business, I am currently working with Barnsley Chronicle to have this poor mans house security overhauled, i am throwing in a free CCTV system with free installation, we are however looking for donations for materials for a monitored security alarm and outside lighting, when the article is released maybe you could donate to this cause to assist this gentleman to re gain confidence being at home?. To say he was grieving for his wife's death a month ago is atrocious, these "people" and i use the term people loosely should hang there heads in shame!

It is about time a government had the balls to bring back "flogging" and stop pussy footing giving scumbags rights. Catch them and publicly flog them!

@adam Scott name your company and I happy to send you a cheque towards this mans security. As for the scum that did this you are the lowest piece of **** I could imagine. There's a lot of business people in Barnsley that would love to get your names so they can invest in your future. ********

It might get solved quicker if this poor mans so called caring friends and family weren't going around threatening decent folk who might have information into not telling the police because they want to play the big men and "sort it themselves".
All well and good giving them an hiding for what they've done this time but afterwards they're left to wander the street freely to do it again instead of locked up which is something only the police and court can do. No common sense some people

hi carla, it is very important if you can contact me or the police direct, who ever has made these threats at your friends house need investigating and they can be arrested, please do not let these cowards get away with robbing an 80 year old man and also threatening your friend to get hold of her cctv before the police, i can confirm it was no family member of the 80 year old man so all we can presume it was the scum bag robbers or their friends, and fingers crossed with the right information they will be caught

So called friends and family?? What's the meaning of this. Messages have been shared on social network sites. Sometimes that's the only way people will learn when they get taught a lesson. This man and his family are distraught by what's happened and everyone is so willing to rally around and help. I'm guessing it won't have been the 1st time these have done something like this so they will know how to play the legal system. A few months behind bars is nothing when they guy doesn't even want to live in his home and estate where he's lived for years. Hard lessons need to be learnt and they might think twice before trying it with someone else's family. Not saying it's right and the legal system is there for a reason but you also have to think about the lasting effects of what these people have done. Prison is like a holiday camp these days there's no lessons learnt by having a paid roof over there head, play stations, telephones ect.
Well done to everyone who is helping this poor guy and his family good to see some people in the community still come together.

@carla ???????? Are you for real, just sit back and think how angry and upset you would be if this was your father/ grandfather.

These people need a crack to be learnt a lesson like the comment above says prison these days is like a holiday camp.

Can I please ask are you related to theses sick lowest of the low **** bags??

I think it's absolutely fantastic that people are helping this man but no matter how much security he has fitted he will always be terrified to be in on his own.
so before people start mouthing off about what's right and wrong, they need to sit and think he's 81 FFS, so yes his family aught to ring his neck!!!!!!!!

That's my opinion anyway if you thing I'm in the wrong with what I've said then so be it send me away!!!!

@Sal I'm all for catching these people and think they deserve everything they get. But what gives people the right to threaten and intimidate INNOCENT folk into not speaking to the police about information they have which would lead these people to be caught?
I'm talking about a poor single woman with 2 kids having a gang of blokes banging her door down DEMANDING and forcing their way into her house to see her CCTV and telling her what will happen if she showed the police before them?
Why have they got any more rights to do that to somebody than these low lives had to threaten and intimidate this man?
Two wrongs don't make a right

hi carla, can you please email me direct at dparker224@aol.co.uk or contact the police with any information you have about this incident and the cctv you mention as ive spoke to his family and no one knows anything about this

Reply Posted by unknown on Friday May 23 2014 at 22:32
I don't agree if its correct but have you thought this gang could have been wanting to get rid of cctv has it showed them and what they ddidor they wanted to see it to see what it showed.
I honestly cannot see this mans family or friends doing that and especially when they have already got cctv. We are very close by and not seen or heard anything regarding a gang banging a door down.

Reply Posted by danny parker on Friday May 23 2014 at 23:14
carla, if you have some information about a gang of blokes banging a door down to see her cctv i think you need to report this to the police, i am a close friend of the family and ive not heard of any mention of any gang of lads threatening anyone to see any cctv, and i have done alot of posting over facebook asking for information as these 2 need to be caught sooner rather than later because next time they rob someone it could be a murder case. if you do have any information at all can you please pass it onto DC 969 Fiona Bowling on 01226 736551 or 07584617236 or email her at fiona.bowling@southyorks.pnn.police.uk and that goes to anyone else who might have any information no matter how small.

As a person breed in Athersley North over 50 years ago and my estate Lundwood Kendray and Grimethorpe were and today were notorious for so called crime.

What villains did was never do this kind of crime to a poor 81 year old. These scum need catching and I salute his family in any means of catching these ********
