"Exciting" Rebuild Starts For Reds

THE Reds could sign as many as 20 new players over the summer as the club looks to bounce back from relegation.

Danny Wilson's men, who finished five points adrift of safety, lost 3-2 against QPR at Oakwell on the final day which brought an end to their eight-year stay in the second tier.

Fans' thoughts now turn to the club's dealings over the summer and with established players like Jim O'Brien, Tomasz Cywka, Stephen Dawson and Jacob Mellis out of contract, there are set to be many comings and goings at Oakwell over the next few months.

Top-scoring striker Chris O'Grady, who bagged a well-taken brace in the QPR defeat, has scored 15 goals this season and is sure to attract the attention of Championship outfits.

Winger Dale Jennings, who has been resurgent since returning from a loan spell with MK Dons, has finished the season in fine form and is another big name who is tipped to leave.

Chief executive Ben Mansford said: "Danny now has a very exciting opportunity to bring in up to 20 players who are happy to be here.

"We will give him as competitive a budget as we possibly can in League One."

Wilson - who wants his new squad to live within a 25-mile radius of the town - said: "Players have to understand the culture of Barnsley and fans' expectations of their performances.

"We want to put people on their edge of their seats next term, because we haven't done that this year.

"It is bound to be a much-changed side when we come back in August."
