CRUEL thieves who stole a memorial plaque and candles from a Hoyland teenager's grave have struck again - weeks from what would have been her 19th birthday.

Shannon Deakin died at the age of 16 in December 2011 after a blood clot spread from her leg to her chest.

She was buried at Kirk Balk cemetery, but in September 2012 there was a spate of thefts from her graveside.

Battery-powered 'candle' lights were taken as well as a memorial plaque.

But now her parents, Bryan and Sue, say the thefts have started again. More candle lights have gone missing and a doll was also removed.

The family have reported the incidents to police and have been patrolling Shannon's grave up to four times a day to try and catch whoever is responsible.

Sue, 46, said: "It is hard enough trying to live every day without Shannon without having to deal with this. For us, they aren't just candles - it's peace of mind to know that Shannon has a bit of light when it gets dark.

"People say that time heals all wounds but it is not like that when you lose your only child."

for mike, if people teach their kids a little respect this wouldnt happen, and don't make it sound as if we are talking about all children, because we`re not, a lot of kids in hoyland knew Shannon and go to look at her things without stealing them, that is called respect.

my son is buried there too and things have been taken off his grave little cars that might only cost a few pence thats not the point kids should not be hanging out in a cemetry too start with and as for mike things should be left on a loved ones grave i agree kids have no respect as to why these tokens are left hands want chopping off

No better than the grave robbers in history!! But if it was one of their family member's grave - omg now that would be a different story. Do unto others as you would have done to yourself - no respect, compassion or empathy as in every area of life these days. Sickening!!
