Drive-Thru Plans Given Green Light

Friday April 25 2014

TWO 'drive-thru' restaurants have been given the green light at a Barnsley business park.

Barnsley Council officers have given approval for the development by Stainsby Grange Ltd, which also includes splitting Blakemore's warehouse into four separate retail units.

The site, off Bleachcroft Way opposite B&Q, comprises of two existing commercial units.

Stainsby wanted the approval so it has the 'flexibility to maximise the chances' of securing a new tenant should Blakemore's not renew its lease and ensure the unit remains viable.

Plans for two drive-thru restaurant/coffee shops will be built on a service yard next to Blakemore's and 35 car parking spaces created.

So much for giving healthy eating places across the borough another fast chain giant to make the kids fatter the next thing they will be complaining about over weight kids putting pressure on the borough hospitals

I think this is a bit sad, why should we take away business from locally owned independent shops and cafes? I've been so pleased that Barnsley has avoided becoming another clone high street (discount stores aside, but they're everywhere) by not having McD's or Starbucks in the town centre and there are smaller outlets around Stairfoot that will lose out because of these.
We've got loads of brilliant independent places that don't pump all their profits off to other countries.

People dont think about it creating jobs. Lets be fair it doesn't say it will be drive throughs its says planning has been approved. They could be anything.

What is 'crapster'? You're referring to it a lot like we should know where you mean. I don't like chain coffee places myself.
And yes, you did mention food,
"N before u have a go i WILL go to mcds or greggs BEFORE even entertain Crapsta rubbish!"
So, what are you on about? Starbucks doesn't produce quality product any more than Costa, Nero or Pret do.
