Grandma Fights Bank's Closure

Thursday April 24 2014

A GRANDMA is mounting a protest against the planned closure of Hoyland's Santander bank.

Kate Wilcock, 63, says the closure would be a blow to the elderly people who use the branch to maintain their financial independence - including her 86-year-old mum who has dementia.

The branch, on King Street, has been served notice by the bank, meaning it has to cease operations as Santander before August.

Mrs Wilcock said she was left in a similar situation when the Halifax agency - previously on the Santander site - also closed, and was now fed up of being 'pushed around'.

She said: "I don't have a computer and my mum would certainly not be able to get into computer banking. But it's not just about us - can you see all the older people that use this agency tottering down to Meadowhall with their walking sticks?"

She has complained to Santander's head office, is writing to her MP and complaining to the financial ombudsman. She has urged all Hoyland Santander customers to do the same and plans to set up a petition.

Doubt it will work there was mass Petition over the closure of natwest in goldthorpe guess what they closed it and now they closing Yorkshire bank there too. It seems all the banks unless they in town are closing they don't think of people who are old or too ill to travel to town to go to the bank. People are just gonna go back to old times and keep there money at home

Stop moaning the bank save your time there's more than one bank in Hoyland has for the old people they can get a post office account for there Benifits

And the rest can use on line banking or you can all join Tesco banking in its new store and keep local people jobs.

Why any one wants to bank with that certain bank is beyond me.it has the worst customer service ratings then any other high street bank. Good riddance I say.

For the last 3 years high street banks and building societies have been judged to show which banks have shone out amongst their competitors and impressed the public. The judging process evaluated product range and popularity, appearance in national press best buy tables, terms and conditions, product innovation and customer service. The customer service element on the award was based on a survey completed by MoneySuperMarket customers. Santander won the award in 2014 for best overall bank including best customer service. Dr Advisor I feel your comments are very much out of date !
