Major Plans For Hoyland Redevelopment

Friday April 4 2014

We Are Barnsley We Are Barnsley

PROPOSALS are being put together for a redevelopment which will bring the market back into the heart of Hoyland.

The project will see enhancements to the public square, a new set of permanent market stalls and a mixture of food and non-food retail units.

An 80-space car park on the site of the former health centre will also be made.

Barnsley Council has been working for over a year with developer Resilienti on the plans, which are expected to be submitted by early May as a planning application.

Coun Robin Franklin, cabinet support member for corporate services, said: "This redevelopment project will reintroduce the high street feel to Hoyland and draw people into the town centre."

Just been on Hoyland and the old Health Center has a for sale sign up.

Coun Robin Franklin says "This redevelopment project will reintroduce the high street feel to Hoyland and draw people into the town centre." Hope you are right as Hoyland is dying on its feet.

Hoyland is dying just like Wombwell, Goldyhorpe and others. Yet still Barnsley wants to keep wasting money onthe town. Sad but true.

I'm with you guy though. I too yearn for the days gone by, but yet I embrace the future. Given a choice, yes I would want our villages to be thriving. What I don't get is the destruction of our wonderful old buildings and the rubbish new soul less ones in place. We should all try to shop local really. Sod the supermarkets, but we won't, they're cheap.
