Free Blood Pressure Checks On Stroke Awareness Day

Tuesday March 25 2014

FREE blood pressure checks will be available on April 5.

High blood pressure remains the biggest risk factor for strokes so the Rotary Club of Barnsley Rockley is supporting the ‘Know Your Blood Pressure’ day to raise awareness.

Nurses will be providing the opportunity to monitor your blood pressure on Cheapside in the town centre on April 5 as part of Stroke Awareness Day.

Dr Nick Balac, chair of the Barnsley Clinical Commissioning Group, said: "Healthy adults over 40 should have their blood pressure checked at least once every five years and more often if they're at an increased risk.

"Many people are unaware that they have high blood pressure so we need to raise awareness and continue to help with the prevention of strokes by targeting people in town who may not have been to their GP recently."

Looking forward to the time when all GP surgeries will have BP monitors to lend out to patients who need them.
