Man Causes Rail Chaos After Sitting On Tracks

Friday March 21 2014

A MAN brought chaos to rail services - when he sat between the tracks off Doncaster Road at Kendray.

Ryan Jones, 32, caused ten train services to Leeds, Huddersfield and Sheffield to be cancelled, Barnsley Magistrates' Court was told.

Jayne Ormrod, prosecuting, said there was a total of 463 minutes of delays and cost a train operating company £4,630.

She added that Mr Jones had been drinking and he was depressed due to personal circumstances. Train services had to be stopped until Mr Jones was removed from the tracks.

Jones, of St Joseph's Gardens, Measbrough Dyke, had twice been given the chance of a police caution but his case had ended up in court because he had not kept the appointments.

Philip Stables, defending, said Jones had undergone a difficult 12 months because his partner had been diagnosed with a serious illness and a relative had died.

Jones admitted obstructing the railway. He will be sentenced on April 8 and was granted unconditional bail.
