Experience Barnsley Wins Top Award

Thursday March 20 2014

THE Experience Barnsley project has won a prestigious award.

The Local Government Chronicle Awards, which celebrate innovation in British councils, was held on March 12 and had a record-breaking 640 entries submitted.

Its 'Community Involvement' award was won by Barnsley Council, with judges describing the Town Hall-based museum as an 'outstanding example of a community-involved project'.

Experience Barnsley - which opened in June 2013 - has recently welcomed its 100,000th visitor and has been a popular draw for residents and tourists.

A Barnsley Council spokesman said: "To win is a fantastic achievement and a testament to all the hard work and pride that's gone into Experience Barnsley."

they're a town museum not a sports one, not everyone knows every sportsperson to come out of barnsley. I love football but have never heard of george raynor.
