Barnsley Magistrates' Court Barnsley Magistrates' Court

A SHOPLIFTER would have gained a first class degree in stupidity if there was such a thing, Barnsley Magistrates' Court was told.

Andrew Sharp, 27, had had words with a security officer at Asda - so he decided to steal a bag of compost.

Alan Greaves, defending, said Sharp, of Honeywell Grove, Honeywell, held the compost bag above his head and paraded it in front of the security officer.

"It was dishonest, way out of order and stupid," Mr Greaves said. "He would have gained a first class degree in stupidity."

Jayne Ormrod, prosecuting, said Sharp did not need the compost because he did not do any gardening.

Sharp, who admitted theft, was given an 18-month conditional discharge, ordered to pay £85 in costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

Are these comments for real. Foul language and stupidity seems to the theme of the comments too now. His fine should have been higher to cover the true cost of his crime.

Didn't police think to check inside his loft or cellar, maybe the compost was for his crop of cannabis, they could have sentenced him for summat worth while. Just a thought like
