Plans Set To Be Approved For New Houses

Tuesday March 18 2014

CONTROVERSIAL plans for up to 200 houses in Royston are set to be approved today - despite hundreds of objections from local residents.

Strategic Land Group's plans for a site north of Lee Lane, between Lee Lane Farm and Applehaigh View, are recommended for approval at the planning board meeting at Barnsley Town Hall.

Residents and councillors highlighted where 1,000 houses could be built in Royston, to contribute to 21,500 needed in the borough over the next 12 years.

Coun Tim Cheetham, who is objecting to the plan, said: "We recognised, along with residents, areas that would be suitable for housing, and this was not one of them.

"We should be working with developers, but this is not happening."

Do you live near the area? Are you backing the proposed plans or are you against them? Have your say below.

We all know yet again it will be the same councillors approving it against public will. Please do a follow up report naming the councillors who approve this proposal and then the public can make their own decisions to get ris of the councillors they disagree with next election.

Is this the site that the same council refused to use for the Carlton School, due to it being green belt and 'unsuitable'? Also have they started building on the footprint of the old school yet?

I have no doubt that once agai the council will railroad these plans through just like they did with Carlton cc which was also strongly opposed by residents and did go ahead on a green belt site against the recommendations of the consultants they paid to recommend a site!
It seems BMCC can do what the hell they like, what a joke !

The law has been changed and Coucillors have very little power to stop anything at all! You have to have reasons that are planning reasons, and very little can be stopped. The people on here who moan should go and see a planning meeting and you will see Councillors object and speak on behalf of their area - and then be told that it has to go through. It's not that BMBC can do what they like - it's that they can't stop the developers! The person who owns the land can apply for what they like and there is very little chance of stopping it! People really don't understand about planning, you could have a development that everyone and all the Councillors objected to - it would very likely still go through!

I went to the chambers to watch the Carlton CC meeting and I seem to remember any Councillors opposed left chambers so as not to vote against it

if iam not mistaken , don't those fields flood when it rains ? . I thought the government had said it would stop houses being built on flood planes

No mate, that's the other side of the road which incidentally if you didn't already know is also earmarked for housing as the council tell us we need 21,000 homes over the next decade or so.
Lovely brand spanking new houses that people from Barnsley wont be able to afford....
