Central Library Gets Ready To Move

Tuesday March 11 2014

CENTRAL library staff are getting ready to move the library's collection to its new temporary home on Wellington Street.

As part of the preparations, the Shambles Street library will close its doors at 5.30pm on Friday, March 21.

It will then re-open eight weeks later, in its new home at Wellington House on Thursday, May 15.

Coun Jenny Platts, cabinet spokesperson for adults and communities, said: "This move marks the start of an exciting time for the library service, and we hope for its users too, as we look to build a new £4 million purpose built library in the town in the next two to three years."

The mobile library service will be making additional stops on Kendray Street during the moving process from 9.30am - 4.30pm every Wednesday from April 2.

There will also be drop off boxes at Barnsley Town Hall for people who are unable to return their books to one of the borough's 16 other libraries.
