Skate Park To Be Finished By Easter Holidays

Tuesday March 11 2014

THE town's new skate park will be finished in time for the Easter holidays, the council has confirmed.

Work on the Hoyle Mill park started in February and is due to be finished for the two-week holidays from early April.

Funded by £100,000 Section 106 housing development money, this will be Barnsley's largest and first in-situ concrete park, and will cater for all skill levels.

Coun Margaret Bruff, a former youth worker, has been at the forefront project. She said: "It's nice to see our efforts coming to fruition.

"Not only will young people have a skate park at last but one in which they've had a say in creating."

I look forward to seeing the skaters and bikers using this. However could I ask that we get appropriate facilities for the extra litter that could be generated. Also any chance we can have it monitored? For the last few days my lad has gone to use the one in Lundwood to find it strewn with broken glass and rubbish, a few spoiling it for the many?

Only Barnsley Council could have built it in such an inappropriate location. I despair.
