Reds Off The Bottom After Battling Win

THE Reds moved off the bottom of the Championship with a 1-0 win over promotion-chasing Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Barnsley - who suffered a 5-0 defeat against Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield in their last game - knew a win against Forest would see them record their first back-to-back home wins for nearly a year.

The much-needed result also means the Reds are unbeaten in five home games going into the crucial match against table-topping Leicester tomorrow night.

After a promising display in the first half, with chances for Dale Jennings and Jim O'Brien, the Reds carried on their good work and took the lead through Jennings' well-struck effort in the 51st minute.

The hosts had their backs against the wall as Forest pushed for an equaliser, before referee Keith Stroud brought the game to an end after six minutes of injury time.

Manager Danny Wilson said: "It was not only the win that was important to us, I think the performance and giving something back to the fans was a major, major priority for us.

"We responded very, very well and I have to say the fans were as good as we were. They were absolutely top class and got behind us."
