Players Booed Off After Derby Day Demolition

BARNSLEY fans booed their players after a humiliating 5-0 defeat against Huddersfield Town on Saturday which saw the Reds slip to the bottom of the Championship.

Danny Wilson's men - who have won just once on the road in over a year - made a positive start to the crucial derby game.

But it was the hosts who surged ahead with two quick-fire goals in the first half through Keith Southern and Danny Ward.

After the break, ex-Barnsley playmaker Adam Hammill made it 3-0 to put the game beyond doubt. Adam Clayton then scored from the penalty spot before Sean Scannell rounded off a comfortable win.

Despite their poor showing, Barnsley are still just two points adrift of safety after other results went their way.

Danny Wilson said: "Football is cruel sometimes. We're going to have bad days and this was a bad day, but we need to knuckle down in training and make sure we don't give easy goals away.

"The goals we gave away were poor and we need to be more resilient."

Wilson expects an angry response after heated exchanges between fans and players, saying: "The fans are passionate and you can't argue with the fans because they follow the club through thick and thin.

"We will get the flak, especially from our fans, but we have to take it on the chin."

Brek Shea is a disgrace sticking his finger up at fans that had paid to watch such a gutless performance! He's not even a good player. Send him back ASAP.

2 points from safety?? Seems someone is forgetting Charlton have 2 games in hand, realistically Reds are 4 points from safety. League 1 next season.

Yes Luke, and it's a 6 pointer at home for Charlton. Reds away success has been terrible, so I'm not banking on a Reds away win.

Plus Luke it will still mean they have extra games in hand over and above Reds. Charlton have only played 30 games so far this season whereas Reds played 32.

Well my love affair with barnsley football club is over after year upon year steadily going down hill, the pain as got to much I love my club and have repaid my faith every year by getting a season ticket. We though administration was bad it is how having it insides pulled apart. We are not good enough for this division & we don't have the money for this league where the rich get richer & the poor get poorer, the 3 that don't go down this season will next because we carnt compete with parachute payments to clubs that fall from the priemer. We have no money to compete same as donny Yeovil mill wall chalton if we do stay up this season it will be same again next, mr Wilson is not the man and never was just another cheap option hoping to win the fans around, maybe do well in 1st division. So now I will ask for a divorce from my club as hard as it is but I carnt keep having my heart pulled apart week after week. Sorry rip bfc. My suggestion would be mr WARNOCK at least we would die fighting.

The directors have already decided its too late to save the Reds from relegation. Danny Wilson has been charged with building a team to compete for promotion next season. Just hope they can show some promise before the season is over to encourage the dwindling faithful to buy a season ticket next year.????

What A shambles, we haven't got a team just a collection of individuals of which more than half of them are just not up for a fight. If Brek Shea. puts on a Barnsley shirt ever again Wilson will start to lose the fans even at this early stage. Steele is an accident waiting to happen, not good enough been like that for two seasons now, he'd make Bobby Moore jittery if he'd had to play in front of him. Kennedy not good enough never will be. The midfield a complete shambles been like that a long long time. But the worst thing is no passion and no heart. Look at Yeovil fighting tooth and nail for a point with 8 men. With what we have at the moment we are not capable of that.

Steele is a liability even Flitcroft could see that. Any team that has Steele & Kennedy in might as well start 1-0 down.
