Barnsley Firm To Install Free Charging Points For Electric Cars

Wednesday February 26 2014

AN ELECTRICAL firm will be installing free charging points for electric vehicles across Barnsley.

Ecogise Group Ltd, based at Kendray Business Centre, is now taking names of those interested in having the charging points installed.

The firm - which was started two years ago by electricians Grant Rowe and Paul Sykes - has gained the accreditation to access a £20million government fund.

Grant, of Barnsbridge Grove, Barnsley, said: "Sometimes it's hard to get across something is free. The government has made this money available.

"You don't even need to have an electric car, it's about future proofing your property. Within the next few years, up to 70 per cent of cars will be electric. All you need is a garage, or off-street parking.

"We want to make sure Barnsley people get their share of this funding, and it doesn't all get snapped up by the big cities like Leeds and Sheffield."

The cars can be charged from an ordinary socket, but a charging point makes it much quicker and safer.

The firm has won OLEV accreditation (Office for Low Emission Vehicles) so is able to apply for the funding on customers' behalf.
