Hundreds Of Trees Planted In Wombwell

Wednesday February 26 2014

A TOTAL of 600 trees have been planted to expand Wombwell woods into former quarry land.

Oak, silver birch and wild cherry trees were planted by volunteers. The planting is intended to ensure that future generations have woodland to enjoy.

The land is owned by the Forestry Commission and it also paid for the trees.

James Fleetwood, from the Forestry Commission, said: "It's not a large amount of trees by our standards but it will be a big extension.

"There are many benefits to the planting but mainly the wildlife at first."
