Barnsley Crime Crackdown A Success

Thursday February 20 2014

South Yorkshire Police South Yorkshire Police

POLICE arrested more than 53 people and recovered £5,000 worth of drugs as part of a week-long policing operation across Barnsley.

Operation Benchmark, which ran last week, saw the force targeting a number of suspects.

The week began with a series of search warrants, with officers looking mainly for cannabis cultivation centres and stolen property.

This netted 161 cannabis plants, over £3,000 worth of other drugs, more than £1,000 of stolen property, thousands of pounds in cash and three vehicles.

Throughout the week, people were arrested on suspicion of a range of offences including burglary, car crime, shoplifting, cannabis cultivation, theft, criminal damage, fraud, failure to appear at court and non-payment of court fines.

Inspector Simon Leake, who led the operation, said: "Criminals have no place to hide in Barnsley. We want our work to reassure the public that we're actively looking to protect them by bringing offenders to justice."

they arrested 53 people, and they only recovered £5000 worth of drugs? that is quite pathetic actually.

Everyone is hard up. Drug users and dealers included. Most low level drug dealers don't even make minimum wage and still live with their parents, rent free.

161 cannabis plants alone would be worth well over £100,000 if you're to believe what you read in the press, i'm guessing the drugs mentioned were class A such as heroin, mcat etc

love the quote they have no where to hide, there is a blatant dealer on our st she doesnt even try to hide it but somehow police never notice even when the do a 'bust' on the estate. i respect the police have a hard job but tbh i think they look the wrong way half the time.

They sell it in the middle of town where there are camera,s but nothing is done to stop it ,,,
The police go up and chat to the dealers as mates , i have seen this myself
,, Like CP says the police look the wrong way sometimes

Sometime in the future stories like this will be regarded with amusement and bafflement .
The war on drugs is a complete failure and a waste of stretched police resources . Prohibition is coming to an end across the world and it is only a matter of time until currently illegal substances are controlled , regulated and legally available .
The war on drugs is a war on people and does nothing to benefit society . It's only legacy is the criminalisation of large numbers of otherwise law abiding citizens

I thought the headlines were misleading it should read we don't give a dam about the drug dealers that make millions but we will arrest and search any youngster that we think looks like she or he could be in possession and stuff there human rights.

Any reduction in drug dealing is well worth any police time. Plus small dealers lead to other dealers and suppliers, which leads higher up the chain. Inteligence gathered at street level is important. I would have thought anyone with common sense would realise that and praise the police for what they do. Its a positive moral boost for the force and well done. Lets have these operations on a weekly basis.

why would anybody praise the police? this article right here is proof that they are as useful as a chocolate fire guard, 53 folks have been arrested and only £5000 worth of drugs have been seized, that is the most pathetic excuse for a 'crackdown' there is, let's say that each of these people has some sort of drugs on them confiscated, on average that would be about £94 each, it's obvious the police are more bothered about the small time users than the big dealers. and this is why i will never respect the police, that and various other reasons

We,d be flaming lost without them. Hope you never really need them matey, you,d soon be singing a different tune.

I honestly doubt it mate, Police are a waste of resources, you can call them all you want and it would still take them 45 mins to 4 hour to arrive. I think we would be much better off without them.

But they do turn up Aiden. Wunt fancy being trapped in a car accident and there being no cops. The lawbreakers would run amok , we would all be terrified to go outdoors. Think about it. Its not perfect, but at least we have them. We just need more.

Sorry old bill - We don't need more has there is enough corrupt cops has it is!!

Reply Posted by old bill on Sunday February 23 2014 at 20:11
What do you suggest then kim? I can't even think about the alternative. Remember the London riots? You say corrupt cops, what about the evil corrupt thieves, rapists, fraudsters, murders? Need I say more? What would happen without our police? Mob rule. There are more good cops than bad ones, you can't say that about the scum they battle everyday.

I wouldn't waste your breath old bill. You can't educate pork.
Aiden a close friend of my family was woken up by burglars in her house last week and the police were there within 5 minutes and 20 minutes later the lowlives had been arrested. That lady is still able to sleep soundly in her bed because she had a service to call and they made her feel safe again. It's the criminals who are the corrupt and the evil and if you want to live in a world where they are allowed to roam free without opposition then I fear for your children. That goes for you as well Kim. Bloody ignorant fools the lot of you.

Reply Posted by kim on Sunday February 23 2014 at 20:45
Big K = wash your mouth out. You cannot call me an ignorant fool has you do not know me. I have had bad experiences with the cops. the points I made are based on my experiences, so do one you cop sucker..

Reply Posted by old bill on Sunday February 23 2014 at 20:50
Hey kim,no need to be vile luv. You post sounds like a kids post. Big K is right. We can't let the lawbreakers rule the land. Think about it.

Reply Posted by Big K on Sunday February 23 2014 at 20:55
Kim I'll give you the benefit of the doubt because you may be young, immature or just simply lacking upstairs. You may have had a bad experience before but that doesn't make you the oracle on the entire police force as a whole to whitewash the whole thing as corrupt and society would be better without.
Where would we be if we employed the same logic with the rest of society? Because some men are convicted of sex crimes ALL men are rapists? Because some mothers abuse their children we ought to take away every newborn at birth? Of course not. Grow up "criminal sucker"

Have you heard yourself Big K. Bullying people because there may have a different opinion to you.. Grow up you are sounding more like a copper with your intimidations..

Tom what was bullying or intimidating about my post? I suggest you grow a pair if counter arguments and good use of English frighten you.
