Local Couple Raises Money For Hospital Charity

Tuesday February 18 2014

A LOCAL couple have raised over £2,600 for the Barnsley Hospital Charity in memory of their baby daughter.

Kerry and Scott Collins - who sadly lost their baby in June 2013 - raised £2,644.17 through various activities including a family fun day, parachute jumps, a go karting day and bucket collections.

The donation will be used to support families who find themselves in similar, tragic circumstances and help with specialist training for midwives which gives them the skills to care for and help bereaved parents and families.

Some of the money will also be put towards refurbishing the brand new 'Rainbow Room' at Barnsley Hospital.

The room - which will be reserved for bereaved parents - will offer a place where they can spend precious time with their child thanks to the use of cold cots.

Kerry said: "We wanted to raise money for the hospital as a huge thank you for the care we received when we sadly lost our little girl.

"Barnsley Hospital were great and we wanted to give a little back to show our appreciation."

Happily, Kerry and Scott are expecting a baby daughter in May and are now busy preparing for her arrival.

Katie Cartwright, fundraising manager, said: "It's only with the support of people like Kerry and Scott that we can continue to support care at Barnsley Hospital. They have made a real difference to local Barnsley families."
