Fire Crews Battle Glass Blaze

Monday February 17 2014

FIRE crews spent nearly four hours tackling a blaze at a glass recycling centre in Barnsley on Saturday.

Crews from Barnsley, Cudworth, Dearne and Tankersley stations were called to the Glass Recycling UK site on Carlton Road, Barnsley, at around 3pm.

They found a glass drying unit had caught fire and was well alight.

A South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "Around 25 firefighters were deployed to bring the blaze under control, with five entering the premises in breathing apparatus with an aerial appliance being used to tackle the fire from above."

None of the workers on site were injured in the fire, which is believed to have started accidentally.

Fire crews left the incident just after 7pm.
