Old Bikes Sought For Art Project

Friday February 14 2014

RESIDENTS are being asked to donate their old bikes to form an art project that will be used to promote the Tour de France.

The Tour de France Grand Depart will see riders passing through Barnsley on July 6 and - to mark the occasion - Barnsley Council is planning to dress the town centre with decorated bicycles.

The bikes will be decorated by market traders who will be covering them in flowers, fruit and veg and even undies.

President of the National Market Traders Federation Geoff Blackburn, who trades on Barnsley Market is a cyclist and has donated the first bike.

Bikes can be dropped off at Barnsley Markets offices. Please call 01226 775746 in advance to arrange a suitable time.

Great stuff Geoff. I urge the people of Barnsley to be out in force when the Tour De France comes through Barnsley, it's your chance to see some superhuman athletes at work. It really is a magical experience!

Come on Wiggo!
