A WEEK-LONG crackdown on crime gets underway in Barnsley today.

South Yorkshire Police will be targeting a number of suspects throughout 'Operation Benchmark', which runs from February 10-16.

However, they will also be offering crime prevention advice to local residents to try and stop them becoming victims of crime.

Inspector Simon Leake, who’s leading the initiative, said they’d be aiming to meet targets of house burglary and vehicle crime.

He said: "Criminals will have no place to hide in Barnsley. We want our work to reassure the public that we’re actively looking to protect them.

"In addition, local policing team officers will be conducting high-visibility patrols in key areas to drive home crime prevention messages and carry out vulnerable vehicle checks."

Should this not be an everyday thing instead of once in a while South Yorkshire police decide to stop criminals after all we do pay our council tax for this service

Higher profile policing is needed too to reduce the amount of drug dealing going on. Could WAB set up a weekly section naming and shaming the people who are caught and convicted from this initiative and the area's where the success has taken place.
Great to see the police taking a lead on this one, keep up the good work WAB & South Yorkshire Police

Why haas my post been removed? Is it wrong of me to name and shame the low life who did my car 4 times in just over a month??? It's ok for the police to just ignore what's happening right under their noses though!! Where's the logic in that?

At Duck and angry and other like minded folks. It is people like you who whine about the justice system and the Police and yet I am guessing that it is likely that you have had ermmmm shall we say previous contact with that system??

You are probably also the sort who never do anything socially minded never mind putting your life on the line. I bet you would not give a statement or attend court if you were a witness either. So really you are talking tripe.....
