Cleaning Company Worker Guilty Of Fly Tipping

Wednesday February 8 2012

A BARNSLEY woman who worked for a cleaning company has been fined for fly-tipping after dumping waste near Ingbirchworth reservoir in Penistone.

Toyah Pritchard, 31, of Royd Avenue, Millhouse Green, Penistone, pleaded guilty to an offence of fly-tipping and was fined over £300 when she appeared before Barnsley Magistrate's on January 26.

She admitted to dumping a chair and some bags of household waste while working for a cleaning company - she had been asked to clean up a vacant property ready for new tenants to move in.

Coun Roy Miller said: “Employees of a cleaning company should know better than to get rid of waste in this way. The waste was dumped in an area of outstanding natural beauty and these areas are extremely valuable to our communities.

“Fly-tipping can cause serious damage to the environment and to public health, as well as being an eyesore.“

She received a 12 month conditional discharge and was ordered to repay the full £180 cost of clearing the waste, as well as to pay £150 towards the council’s prosecution costs.

I would like to know how the council come by the £180 of clearing the waste. The men were already working, so apart from diesel costs what was the extra outlay.  The biggest scam in the world or what.

Maybe the cost per tonne to dispose of the waste?
