PATIENTS at Barnsley Hospital would recommend its maternity services, according to the results of a new survey.

The national Friends and Family Test asked patients if they would recommend the service to a family or friend.

Six choices of answer - ranging from ‘extremely likely’ to ‘extremely unlikely’ - were offered. Patients were then given the chance to explain the reasons for their choice.

The survey's results showed that 100 per cent of are either ‘likely’ or ‘extremely likely’ to recommend the hospital’s antenatal and community postnatal services, with scores of 94 per cent for the labour ward and 96 per cent for the postnatal ward.

The results cover the period October to December 2013, during which the hospital received 313 survey responses.

Sue Gibson, head of midwifery at the hospital, said: "These are excellent results and show that women think highly of the maternity care they receive at Barnsley Hospital.

"The survey allows patients to tell us what they think we're doing well and where we can improve,

"We’re working hard to ensure that we build on the feedback they give us to help us constantly improve."

I would like to congratulate BDGH on this result, it is clearly well deserved and a lot of effort on behalf of the front line staff has paid off. They do a very difficult job, in difficult conditions, with constant pressure from "on high".

Now let's wait for all the "I had the worst time ever when I had my baby there" brigade to pop up on here and start slating them AGAIN.

I've had all my children at Barnsley and have had fantastic care and would recommend it to others.

Exactly, and how many of these people who think it is absolutely terrible actually took the time to say something about it then? Or wrote to them afterwards? I would imagine very few. It is as a result of these pages, and the facebook pages that these surveys are commissioned though, the management see them (even request them to be started) and yet the QC committee and the Friends and Family test can't find anything wrong. Sounds like some people just like to whinge from behind their keyboard when in reality there was probably nothing wrong at all with the care they received.

It was a catalogue of disasters when my daughter was having her son...and this was only in October of last year. She ended up in intensive care on a ventilator and lost 4ltr of blood .....and then for them to cock up again and a week later end up back in.....and then be told when she asked if she was going to be seen by a dr at some point that day that its the weekend it's skeleton staff and the priority are the ladies who have just had babies......not the woman who nearly lost her life through their mistakes! And yes....we said something....and yes we complained.....and yes they admit they are at fault! Please note how I have the balls to put my name on this.....unlike those who accuse people of whinging behind keyboards and insinuate that's there was nothing wrong with the care received!

I had a great team of midwifes looking after me when I had my first child Jan 2011. When admitted for a kidney infection in Dec 2013 I was looked after extremely well also. can not fault them at all. I am due in 5 weeks hoping to get the same sort of treatment.

with my first thex were fab, but with my second not so good, wen he was born my partner noticed his arm was dangling he ask y and one midwife turned round and said "ooh i dont no we havent done it" the other one went to get a baby doctor, wen the doctor came she lifted and dropped is arm 4 times amd said it was just numb. 4 hour later he was stil screaming so i demanded a x-ray when we went for this the man said i dont need to do a x-ray to tell u that its broke and y is there 2 finger prints on his arm (where the baby doctor had grabed it) anyway it was a trumatic brake. The next day the midwife came and asked if i had dropped him or banged is arm i as distraut. They also left me with the cord attached for 30 mins and didnt deliver the after birth for a further hour... And yes we complained, put it in writeing and went to meetings, cause i dont want to happen to any1 else and there baby

I've delivered in 3 different hospitals and without going into too much detail I found Barnsley maternity hospital out dated and behind times ." I can't be in labour cause you aren't having regular contractions and go home " . 30 minutes later my beautiful baby boy was born . Oh and the comment by 1 midwife " labour is painful " . After having 5 children I think I know exactly what labour feels like .

I had both children at Barnsley hospital the first time round the staff where fantastic that's I why I choose to have my 2nd child here only 2nd time round was awful , my baby was born prem and was taken to scbu , I didn't get to seems baby untill the next day and I cryed myself to sleep only to be told off by the midwife . My baby was very poorly and I couldn't get up to scbu due not be able to get out of bed due to c section and had to wait for family or friends to take me in the wheel chair as the staff wouldn't take me . Looking back I should have reported that nurse
