A BARNSLEY MP has raised residents' concerns about the proposed HS2 route.

Michael Dugher, the MP for Barnsley East, used his submission to the rail link's public consultation to raise a number of issues brought to him by his constituents.

Based on current plans, HS2 is set to enter Mr Dugher's constituency south of Hoyland via a tunnel, before cutting through the outer section of Wombwell Wood.

It then passes near to the hamlet of Swaithe, tunnelling under Ardsley and emerging to pass by Cudworth and Shafton.

The public consultation on the proposed route for the second phase of HS2 closed at the end of January.

All submissions will now be analysed by an independent company, which will then report its findings to HS2 Ltd.

Mr Dugher said: "I'm determined that the voice of local residents is heard loud and clear and that the concerns that people have raised with me are taken in to account.

"If this consultation shows there is overwhelming public opinion that the route should be altered, then HS2 should listen and look at proposals to do so."

South Yorkshire needs HS 2 like a hole in the head. How does improving links to London help ordinary people, it costs a bomb to travel by rail what we need is better links to Robin Hood airport and probably upgrading the A1 M and the A64 and why not reopen the Woodhead tunnel to rail traffic, ever tried crossing the Pennines on the M62.??? Look after us Dugher never mind all those cronies of yours like Ladbrokes who treat you champagne at the Cheltenham Gold Cup.??

"Duggy" Dugher never fails to get his two minutes of fame in the media does he?
He couldn't really give a monkeys about HS2 or his constituents, all he is interested in is himself and his own gravy train.

Steveo, they're deleting your posts because you're most likely too close to the truth and may harm WAbs mates in the Labour council......they've deleted my posts too in the past over similar matters.

Now that is something we most definitely agree on Richard.
