THIEVES have stolen almost 300 boxes of winter clothes worth over £90,000 from a Barnsley haulage yard.

It is thought the gang broke through security fencing at A Davis Transport Ltd, on Fallbank Industrial Estate, Dodworth, and took more than 5,500 TOG24 garments from a trailer.

The culprits carried the jackets in around 280 boxes to their getaway vehicle, parked in a nearby field.

The theft happened sometime between noon on Saturday, December 7 and 4am on Monday, December 9 last year but police say now is the time the thieves could be trying to offload the goods.

DC Steve Mason, of South Yorkshire Police: “The offenders will have taken a long time to load up the vast quantity of jackets, which were men’s, women’s and children’s in different styles and sizes.

“We believe the thieves are part of an organised criminal group and that this was a targeted attack.

“They are likely to have distributed the stolen items over the Christmas period, passed them to handlers or sold them to members of the public.”

The jackets contained unique order numbers, printed on the label, that were specific to the consignment. The number for the adult jackets is 132090 and for the children’s it is 132093.

Anyone with information should contact South Yorkshire Police on: 101 and quote incident number 136 of 9 December, 2013, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on: 0800 555111.

Won't be difficult to spot folk walking around the town all wearing the same coats! There won't be a shortage of buyers due to the present climate, economical and meteorological..

I wonder how much they're going for? I've had a look online and none of them seem to be over £100 retail.

at least police have made people aware. my husband had his full trailer stolen a few years back, from a secure yard with cctv. no one was ever caught & the insurance company will not pay out for the loss.

The criminal masterminds behind this job are clearly victims of subliminal messaging, after years and years of hearing the phrase "get thi coit", and seeing it plastered on local beer bottles, the pressure was just too much.

I think the coats are well gone. Somebody must know the area, and observed the routine of things. Shame because insurance will find any excuse not to pay out.
