Reds Climb Off Bottom After Blackburn Draw

A SECOND-HALF Chris O'Grady penalty earned a valuable point for the Reds last night.

Barnsley started well and took the lead through new boy Nick Proschwitz, who beat Blackburn's ex-England goalkeeper Paul Robinson in the 29th minute.

The visitors were level just seven minutes later though, after a 25-yard screamer from Tom Cairney. Rudy Gestede's effort a minute before half-time put Blackburn ahead.

But Barnsley manager Danny Wilson introduced midfielders Liam Lawrence and Tomasz Cywka in the 62nd minute, and it was Lawrence who was bundled over in the box and awarded a penalty.

O'Grady sent Robinson the wrong way from the spot to salvage a draw for the hosts, lifting Barnsley off the bottom of the table.

"I'm happy with a point," Wilson said. "We fought back from behind against a quality side.

"Only being a goal behind at the break was a bonus to be honest. We got away with it, we have to be honest."

Next up for the Reds is the big South Yorkshire derby on Saturday against Sheffield Wednesday.
