Elderly Woman Has Bag Snatched

Monday January 27 2014

We Are Barnsley We Are Barnsley

AN 85-year-old woman had her bag snatched as she walked along a Barnsley street in the middle of the afternoon.

The woman was walking along York Street, Cudworth, at about 1pm last Monday when she felt a pull from behind her.

DCI Steve Handley said she turned around to see a man running off with her handbag.

He said: "Any crime is despicable but crime against vulnerable members of our community is concerning.

"We're trying to identify any witnesses and are looking at intelligence systems to see if we can identify the culprit."

The woman didn't see the man's face and was only able to describe him as tall and wearing navy blue clothing with a hood.

Anyone who saw the incident, or has any information, should contact police on 101.

Hannah - Don't think this only happens in Barnsley. Sad to say but there is scum living in every town all over the country.

What in name of god is this country coming to.You have to lock and bolt every access in your home not only at night but daily as well. You venture out during day light hours feeling a modicum of safety, just to be confronted by a coward.I sincerly hope that the lady in question as no lasting effects from her ordeal.God bless you love.

Just lately I have noticed being a local of cuddy quite a few gangs congregating on the Main Street, being quite a close knit community the natives of Cudworth know one another from children to the aged but the people in these gangs nobody you ask seams to know them. Perhaps the police should start with these if its just to rule them out. I hope the police gets the person before he or she does it again my heart goes out to the women

I too am a resident of Cudworth, Ida down, you are bang on, its a small community and everyone knows someone in the little gangs that loiter around the streets outside the shops and in the cemetary, people know that some individuals in these gangs are caplable of doing these things, some have been known to do it before, its a shame though that these people would never say talk much, but one of them will slip up soon, i know of two people that have been mugged in the last few months, one of them was my 16 year old neighbour and the other was a local bloke going about his paper round, he has never been the same since, its getting too much and the cops need to start speaking to these gangs that have nothing better to do than hang around spitting and swearing.

The scum bag that has done this will not realise (or care) that it has probably taken away this lady's confidence to leave her home on her own ever again, thus turning her in to the prisoner that he should be.
Rough Justice i doubt he will even get 100 community hours!!!!!!!!

I'm a resident of Cudworth, this sort of thing was unheard of here, what we really need to do is give me little gangster wannabes a good crack and put them in their place.

This is why everyone that can afford to get out of this shit-hole of a country is doing just that. Barnsley is the armpit of what once was a green and pleasant land. We don't have any pride in who we are anymore.

Don't blame the police, blame the do gooders, even if you catch one of these scum bags you daren't do anything to him, like give him a pasting and make him apologise, you would have solicitors and do gooders on your back like lighting.Do gooders have a lot to answer for!!!!.
