TV Presenter To Visit Oakwell

Wednesday January 29 2014

SKY Sports presenter Charlie Webster will be at Oakwell today as part of a 250-mile run aiming to raise funds for a domestic violence charity.

The Sheffield-born TV personality came up with Charlie's Big Challenge, a gruelling running event like no other.

Charlie's week-long journey will see her run a 250-mile route, which began at Burton Albion FC and finishes at West Ham United.

She's visiting 40 football grounds along the way.

Charlie, 31, has raised over £25,000 for Women's Aid so far and is urging Barnsley fans to show their support to show that they too are united against domestic violence.

By the time Charlie reaches Oakwell she will have already covered 110 miles.

Charlie said: "I'm proud to be taking on this challenge to raise money for Women's Aid and to work with Barnsley FC to raise awareness of domestic violence.

"The work that Women's Aid does is vital in helping one in four women and hundreds of thousands of children who experience abuse to receive the support they so desperately need.

"I hope that Barnsley fans will get behind my challenge. I’m hugely grateful for any support.

"I came up with the idea last year whilst trying to think of a way to engage both sexes in standing up against domestic abuse.

"It's so commonly referred to as a 'women's issue', but everyone needs to speak out together to end domestic violence and set an example for the next generation."
