Terminally Ill Mum Renews Vows

A TERMINALLY ill mum fulfilled her last wish on Saturday when she walked down the aisle to renew her wedding vows.

Dawn Wood, 48, of Queen’s Drive, Dodworth, wanted to renew her marriage vows to husband Kevin, 44, on their 25th wedding anniversary.

But the anniversary is three years away and Dawn has been getting weaker as she struggles in her battle against cancer.

She spent the week in the run up to the celebration in hospital fighting a lung infection, but daughter Chelsea, 21, said there was 'no way' Dawn would miss the ceremony.

Dawn was diagnosed with breast cancer seven years ago, but having beaten the disease was told three years she had lung cancer.

She had to have two-thirds of her lung removed.

She then developed nine brain tumours and has received radiotherapy and is on medication for seizures.

Chelsea, a hairdresser at Eid Hair Salon in Barnsley, said: "She can't wait to come out now. She is doing loads better, but she's still a little breathless.

"Mum's known for a while this is what's going to take her. There's nothing they can do, they're just doing what they can to prolong her life.

"We asked her what she would like to do in the time she has, and this was the one thing she wanted, to renew her vows.

"We decided to arrange a ceremony and keep it secret until Christmas Day so it was her present.

"She was in tears when she found out."

Chelsea said it was extremely hard for the family, but the wedding had given everyone something to focus on, and they were determined to give Dawn a great day.

That's lovely for her! Shame that she has beaten it once and got the diease somewhere else. this is why I think it should be compulsory to have a full body scan when initially being diagnosed with cancer, can strike anywhere. What a brave family xx

I agree Julie. I don't know them personally but Dawn is definitely an inspiration in my book, she should be proud of herself and her family. She has two beautiful daughters and a fantastic husband.

Wonderful woman, wonderful family.

What a very touching and nice but sad piece of news. Most people unfortunately will have had a family or friend that's been effected by this horrendous disease

One thing for sure she has a loving husband and two beautiful daughters.

She can be very proud of her loved ones and I'm very sure your family are so proud of you.

Hope your day went as planed. God bless you all.
