Extra Buses Introduced On Busy Routes

Tuesday January 14 2014

EXTRA buses are being introduced on a busy bus service in Barnsley.

The additional morning peak buses are being launched on Stagecoach's service 32 which runs from Cudworth to Barnsley.

The change comes into effect from January 25 (Saturday) and is one of a number of alterations being made to the bus provider's services in Barnsley and the Dearne Valley.

Following customer feedback, on service 22X the Monday to Friday 6.10pm journey from Barnsley will be moved to 6.15pm and on Sundays the route will see minor timetable changes.

To improve reliability on service 12, the 5.20pm journey from Barnsley will leave five minutes later.

Minor changes to improve reliability have also been made to Saturday and Sunday timetables on service 66 and to service 228 between Wombwell and Wath.

Paul Lynch, managing director of Stagecoach Yorkshire, said: "The changes we make to our network are always developed with the primary aim of improving services for the benefit of our passengers and based on feedback from customers.

"We're delighted to be introducing the extra buses on our route 32 to cater for increased passenger numbers and we hope that the other changes we're making will further improve the reliability of our buses in Barnsley and the Dearne Valley."

What about adding a new service that would cater for a lot of people - a bus from barnsley interchange to manvers that goes through darfield , great houghton , thurnscoe instead of having the 22 service running with half empty buses

How about more than 3 stagecoach busses a day to and from ward green ?? We have three to town 67a's 20.04 22.04 00.04 then three from town that arrive at wath green at 19.15 21.15 23.15 that's not really any good for carrying shopping and things how abouts sending a 66 that way once every half hour or something ??

Our 66 buses go out of town every ten minutes, only trouble is they all come back at the same time.??? You could die of old age waiting for one at the cutting edge.!!!

nothing to do with Redline, they can not even run at the times that are registered always going early, one is always parked on the pinfold car park from 15 30 till 1600 why, The extra bus is to improve reliability as stated

im sick of paying for these mi cards from my council tax cotributions and mr roy miller the councillor for mapplewell agrees council tax payers should not be paying for the loonatics travelling round for 30p causing mayhem to the public who have paid a good fare and having the driver putting up with these idiots riding round for the fun of it....get rid of the mi card....y should the tax payer have to contribute to this loonatic pass???????????/

Moved here in my twenties and never got to experience the free travel for children, but was impressed with it, and think it should be brought back.
Happy to pay council tax to subsidise people without an income who are not legally allowed to work to travel, i.e. children.
Free fares for the elderly on the other hand I find relatively obscene when pensions are higher in real terms than ever, and they are entitled to multiple means tested and non means tested benefits, with the poorest pensioners being considerably better off than many workers who work full time.
I'm subsisiding people who are better off than me, that isn't fair.

That said, I still think the free fares for pensioners are a good thing and should be continued, I wonder how many accidents they have prevented by encouraging people with poor sight off of the roads. That benefit to society is unmeasurable.

We should really have free fares for all. Some bus companies have routes that are capable of running entirely off of pensioner subsidies. To have free travel for all, wouldn't cost much more at all, as the increased cost of carrying extra passengers would be far far lower per journey, and the services are already subsidised to such a degree, we might as well nationalise them, seeing as we are already funding them.

Benefits from free travel for all would include, but not be limited to; increased mobility for all, lower pollution, lower running costs for bus companies on a per journey basis.
It would be brilliant for workers, as they could afford to travel when skint. Which would be brilliant for business in the borough.
It would be good for the elderly as younger relatives could afford to travel in order to care for them.
It would be good for the unemployed as they could travel in order to search for work.
It would be good for businesses, as customers could afford to visit their businesses.

how about putting another 29 bus from michael's estate instead of one an hour to get to town why don't the 29 bus that just goes up nancy cres do a little de-tour down michael's estate which would be better for the disabled and elderly people down that estate

Reply Posted by Emma on Wednesday January 15 2014 at 12:09
how about taking a 66 to go down kirk balk cos elderly and other people have only got 7 bus every even hour down and up plus if they have got heavy bags its a struggle nearest bus stop is sports centre big mistake taking 227 off that was convenient for people

Most people in thurnscoe want thw 219 back up the top end of thurnscoe it is not on that people have to walk to the main road to get the bus cos the 226 goes alway round and the journey is too long

WARD GREEN Needs more buses! Please look into this! Ty

Well said bus boss. Make the old folks pay for their travel too!

I'd prefer it if LESS buses went down the michaels estate. It's full of ignorant freeloading pensioners.
The 66 has enough stops and its always funny to see a convoy of 3 or even 4 going past at the same time.

im not being funny but your putting all these extra buses on, why not thing about putting em some aldham house estate its not fair on the elderly that cannot go out after 6pm when the tates travel stop and cannot go anywhere on sundays as no buses up here and council is bulding more houses, think you need to rethink about the estates that has very little service

Reply Posted by braincell on Friday January 17 2014 at 14:25
You what makes me laugh, everyone putting "suggestions" for buses on here..... why don't you actually submit them to stagecoach because NOTHING s going to happen with them being on here... idiots.

Reply Posted by anon on Friday January 17 2014 at 14:52
Quite agree with Emma we do need more buses up and down Kirk balk. There is an aged persons complex near the top and a lot of the residents are dependent on other people because of the lack of transport.

Great! After numerous emails to Stagecoach and phone calls with them dating back a good 6 months and still no improvements or increased bus services to the 67. Once an hour (that's if it can be bothered to turn up) just isn't good enough!

They shuld think about putting a extra bus or at least a bigger bus on to take kids up to horizon school because the no 43 bus @8.20 in the morning is full of kids meaning theres not enough room on the bus for people to get to work. numerous of times i have bin late for work as ive had to walk. And theres people who wait on summer lane for the bus that have not bern able to get on because its to full
