Dog Causes Explosion In Home

Wednesday January 8 2014

A HOME was lucky to have not been left with severe damage after a pet dog caused an explosion.

It's thought the dog perforated an aerosol can which leaked gas onto a sofa and was then ignited by heat from a lamp.

The can exploded, blowing out a downstairs bay window and setting fire to the sofa.

Firefighters from Dearne and Adwick stations were called to put out the blaze on Frederick Street, Goldthorpe, at around 6pm on January 4.

The occupiers weren’t in at the time, but three dogs and three cats were inside the building.

How are the cats and dogs that were in the building then? I care more about animals than humans most days!

My animals are all okay it wasnt caused by the heat of the lamp cos the lamp was at the other side of the rom at they are energy savibg bulbs so they dont get hot. It was caused by the fire with it having a back boiler. It wasnt the dogs fault at all.

@Kerry pleased all the animals are ok and no on was injured. It could have been a lot more serious.

Hope you took the animals to the vets for a MOT that will please the vets.

And make sure your husband puts his can of Hairspray some where safe in the future. The dog needs protecting from him.

None of the animals are hurt! Could have happend weather we was in or out. It wasnt a can of hairspray it was a lynx can that leaked!

Reply Posted by BFG on Wednesday January 8 2014 at 20:40
And it leaked because the dog bit into the can?

Imagine if the dog had punctured a can of Schwarzcopf...Could have turned out to be Goldthorpe's first hair disaster.

When it blew up.....did it go 'Woof'?
Really pleased everybody is ok!!! :)

I am so pleased the poor animals were not hurt. You say this is a house - are you sure it's not the local kennels & cattery? Who on earth would leave three dogs in their lounge when they go out? The dog must have chewed a can of air fresher because with three dogs you would need more than Lynx deodorant to live there! I hope you don't have to sell the dogs to pay for the repairs! And your right it wasn't the dog's fault. It was yours. I think you were very lucky no one was seriously hurt.

Sounds like a Rightguard dog!

I agree with Dave. The house must stink with all those cats and dogs!!! I can't believe the landlords allow it.....although they probably don't know they've got half a zoo in their house!! Or don't care what goes on as long as they get their greedy hands on the rent!! I also live in Goldthorpe and have to work 6 days a week just to feed my family, perhaps if I went on benefits I also would be able to afford to keep enough animals to fill a safari park!! Maybe when the landlords repair and fumigate the house for letting again, they won't rent to someone with so many animals. Or then again, as you've ruined their house, perhaps they'll send you the bill?
I'm glad to hear no-one was hurt though

What an odd post @jezz! Where does it mention landlords/rent/benefits/ etc? The house may be owned by the safari keepers?
You've brought a lot of quite nasty assumptions into this thread mate.

Congrats Jezz you must be one of the few that lives in Goldthorpe that actually work!

Reply Posted by Warrior on Sunday January 12 2014 at 20:14
Jezz what are you rambling about. Who says its a private Landlord. I've got 12 dogs in my house. They are all in one tin in the pantry.

Stop pre judging people arsehole.

Why don't we give these people a pat on the back for being complete idiots, what sort of animal lover would leave these animals to fend for them selves while their owners are out surely it would have made sense to make sure the animals got looked after properly, put your things away out of reach just like you would a child.

Who'd of thought a dog would chomp on a can of deodorant not me maybe it was put away and the dog climbed up and if she put them in cages while she went out you'd be moaning about that she let them roam your moaning about no matter what she does your lot would be moaning and who cares what any one say it's her house her animals she can do what she wants and as for some one saying put things out of reach like you a child. Children climb up a get things there not ment to and plus you would never leave a child in the house alone or would you

In reply to ANON’s post on the 12/1/14

If you read the local papers all the info is in them.
I too know Frederick St very well as I lived in the area for many years.
The last owner occupier moved out of this block nearly ten years ago because of landlords letting the houses to drugies and antisocial tenants, all you have to do is look at the front doors most of them are damaged and have been kicked in. windows are boarded up. You may also wish to take a look at the foot path at the rear of these properties and see the discussing state it is in and while you are there take a look at the railway bank and then ask yourself is this the way decent people live I think not. Also look at the back yards and see the state they are in dog mess and bags of rubbish stacked up.
People who own pets are responsible for the damage they do and should not not try and blame every one else mate.

The window was replaced to-day so perhaps there is one decent landlord in the street who cares about his property

Once again I too am so pleased no one or animal was hurt

What's it coming to OAP. it must be a living hell. I feel for you sir/madam.
Best wishes.x

Your rite OAP its a complete mess, why should the tax payer pay for this kind of living, another waste of government funds, paying tax to help the needy is one thing, paying taxes to pay for others to keep animals is another, give out vouchers and stop this nonsense!

Thanks Anon and Meme.
Until the powers to be wake up and stop using Goldthorpe as a dumping ground for drugies and tenants that the council will not house . This once lovely and proud village will continue to go down hill. The papers were very quit about the fire in the chip shop in Frederick St. before Christmas. Think about the hard working owners and the girls who worked hard there. How did they feel when their jobs went up in smoke and Christmas on the way. I am sure if there was a dog involved it would be all over the press. Wake up everyone and put people FIRST.
I love animals but lets get things in the right order.

OAP there are many good and proud people that live in Goldthorpe, however this is spoilt by rif raf who have no morels nor care about the village and peoples life, the fact is Goldthorpe is a shit hole created by the local council who don't give a dam about normal people living there, complaints come in thick and fast and the council couldn't give a dam, the village needs to be put back in order to return it to its former glory, i fear its out of site out of mind and in Goldthorpe, yet again Goldthorpe on the local news for all the wrong reasons!, fly tipping my arse its bloody people being lazy couldn't be bothered to put bags of rubbish in the bin, just dump it all on the disused railway.

You are right Meme. Most of the people in this street are been funded by hard working peoples taxes.
The sooner the government cuts the handouts the better and these people will either die or get a life and find a job. The benefit systems was set up to help the needy and the sick not young fit people to hang around and go to the gym, drink beer and smoke budd. Wake up young people the pit closed before you were born get out there and find a job and make something of your lives so you kids can be proud of you and Goldthorpe again. Yes us miners had a very hard time but this is no excuse for people under 30 years to sit around and moan about the past. Stop moaning and do what the eastern Europeans do EMIGRATE and take all the drugies with you.

I must say the landlord has carried out the repairs very fast.I expected the window to be boarded up for months as most landlords do not bother to repair their properties. Thank you Landlord for removing an eyesore from our street . Maybe other landlords will follow your example and kick out the drugies and antisocial tenants but I suspect not as the rent will be paid direct to them from the council and they don't care about the decent people of Goldthorpe while they live in their nice leafy areas. I hope the people in the house have got over this terrible shock and the animals are now ok.

QAP, shame most of these people have created the life they have got, there is plenty of work around this area, Asos, Call centres, Next, Maplin, etc etc but who in there rite mind is going to take on people that turn up for an interview smelling of drugs and booze, the life they created is the life they want and until the government do something about it and stop funding this way of life these people are more than happy to waste the tax payers money.

Reply Posted by Oap on Tuesday January 21 2014 at 17:50
Goldthorpe bypass, I think you are been unfair to the hard working people of Goldthorpe.
You will not see them hanging around the streets as they are at work and caring for their families. The one’s you see hanging around are the benefit dependent one’s as Meme says who in their right mind would give them a job. The powers to be should crack down on them and send them to re-hab and train them so they may be employable. For a start they could pick up litter and the empty beer cans. Remove the rubbish from the snickets and footpaths at the back of the houses. Make each one responsible for a section of snicket and back foot path. If it is not kept clean and clear deduct some money from their benefit. This would be a start to get Goldthorpe back to be a place where decent people would want to come to and live.

I am not surprised you removed Goldthorpe Pass posting as it was not very helpful.
We need people to support out village and make it a proud place again. Come on decent people of Goldthorpe stand up and be counted you know this could be a lovely place to live and bring up families again. I hope they start work on the new school soon as this will be a very big step forward.

I see on the news that Barnsley is to get a big face lift, that's going to cost millions, come on Barnsley Council whats happened to all the plans to redevelop Goldthorpe have you saved all the funds for yourselves and left out Goldthorpe yet again?

You talk a lot of sense Meme. perhaps you should join the GOLDTHORPE DEVELOPMENT GROUP and help sort out the area. It needs people who care about the area or are you one thats likes to talk about things and do nothing.
Become a local hero go for it Meme. Good luck
