Pace Is Key In Wilson's Recruitment Drive

BARNSLEY manager Danny Wilson wants to strengthen every department in his squad - but admitted he will probably only be able to bring in 'three or four' new faces in this month's transfer window.

USA international Brek Shea, a loan signing from Stoke City, has already joined to give the Reds a much-needed attacking option.

Wilson's already on the lookout for a striker and another pacey attacker.

The Oakwell club have struggled in front of goal this season, scoring just 21 times in 24 league games.

They've hit the back of the net just four times in the last ten outings and remain rooted to the bottom of the Championship.

However, fresh options will have to come in on loan as Wilson, who's still looking for his first win in his second stint in charge of the club, hasn't got much money to spend.

He said: "We need a lot of working doing, that's clear. There's not a great deal of dough, but I have to say Mr Cryne (Patrick - the club's owner) has been brilliant to even let us get players in on loan.

"I could go for every position, but we need to prioritise. I'd like three or four players.

"We need some pace in our team. Nothing against the boys here, but we need that aspect to frighten the life out of defenders."

Jack Butland, David Fox and Marcus Tudgay have returned to Stoke, Norwich and Nottingham Forest respectively, while Chris Dagnall, Dale Jennings and Jim McNulty are all back at Oakwell after their spells out on loan.

Who would you like to see? Have your say below.

We need to get rid of the shit like perkins kennady mvoto dawson and ramamge they all useless. And strickers, we have never had a prolific goal scorer we got ogrady who is lazy and dont want to run. The only person who puts 100% in is jim o brian

What?! Danny, Did you actually go to the Coventry game? M'voto wasn't that bad in my opinion. O'brien certainly didn't give 100% against Coventry. Cwyka however did. Defence in the first half of that game looked more solid than they have all season just by taking wiseman out but then second half went back to being same old Barnsley. O'grady cannot play lone striker however works well alongside Pederson. Need more creativity in midfield and playing Perkins and Dawson together is never going to work. Brek Shea will hopefully do us good. Positions to be looked at for me are: LB (unless Nyatanga is fit) RB, CM and attackers. Also possibly Gk cause Steele is defiantly still not 100%.

Well said Chrissy I went to the game and we played well the first half, Wisey is near to going to Blackpool because they want Cranes at right back. Brian Howard is looking could be a good punt

Danny start at the back Goalie defo 2full backs a decent ball playing midfielder no complaints about Paddy but we need somebody with a bit more strength he loses the ball more times than I have hot dinners and lastly give our exising strikers a chance from the start playing 1 up front at home smacks off a manager who,s frightened off the opposition with respect they are a league 1 side Danny!!

Midfield is much stronger with Etuhu in. Dawson, although he tries hard, is out of his depth and panicks too often when challenged on the ball.
Kennedy's persistent long ball/hoofs upfield are becoming frustrating... There's only so many times Ogrady can bring it down and lay it off.
Agree with fella above, Ogrady AND Pedds is the only time we look threatening.
Ramage has been a major disappointment.
M'voto looks quite capable up front!!
Obrien and cykca are doing well.
I think the key issue is the weak midfield... Constantly inviting pressure on the defence and not creative or confident enough to play in the attackers.
I would also urge the board to keep Wilson; even if we go down... He's the only guy that's gonna get us out if this mess, be it a couple of seasons.
