Barnsley Man Helps Daughter Deliver Baby On Christmas Eve

Tuesday January 7 2014

THIS proud grandfather helped deliver his daughter's son on Christmas Eve!

Michael Moore's daughter, Melanie, went into labour four days early and gave birth to Finley at 5.57pm - less than an hour after her first contraction.

He weighed 7lbs 12oz and is a brother to Bailey Hudson, six, and Lily-Mae Hudson, five.

Melanie, 25, of Rose Grove, Wombwell, had planned a home birth but wasn't expecting Finley so early.

She called her parents when she started having contractions and Michael came to her aid, keeping her calm, rubbing her back and guiding her through breathing exercises.

"He was my birthing partner and midwife rolled into one," Melanie said. "It only took 57 minutes from start to finish and I didn't have any pain relief but he did keep me calm.

"He got a bit emotional and I had a little cry after I'd had Finley. It was nice though."

Michael, 51, of Kitchin Road, Wombwell, said he was chuffed to have delivered his second grandson.

"It was just a case of all hands on deck," he said. "The midwives didn't have time to get there and I was glad to be of help.

"It was definitely an experience and I was a bit emotional. I wouldn't say I was in shock, but I wouldn't have thought I'd be able to do anything like that.

"You've just got to get on with it."
