Barnsley Man Attempts To Track Mother Down

Friday December 6 2013

A BARNSLEY man who has not seen his mother for more than 50 years is trying to track her down.

Malcolm John Moxon, know as John, is trying to find Margaret Moxon, from Ward Green, who would now be in her late 70s.

John, 54, of Shield Avenue, Worsbrough, and his sister Gillian, 55, were raised by his grandmother Sarah Anne Moxon in Ward Green following Margaret's divorce from his father Gordon when he was a toddler.

He knows very little about Margaret, except she born in 1936, her maiden name was Parker and that she worked in the Jet garage in Monk Bretton.

He said: "It's very painful. I don't know why she didn't take us with her. My sister found her when she was 16 and she told her she didn't want anything to do with her."

After searching internet sites such as Genes Reunited and looking through archives at the Town Hall, John also believes he may have a brother and sister after he found records for a Michael Roy Moxon, born in 1956, and a girl called Lynne who was born in 1952.

He added: "It's like there's a gap I need to fill. If she turns around and says she doesn't want anything to do with me then fair enough, but at least I will know."

So he is 54,waits 50 years n expects her to even still be alive and have all her facultys? Is he a bit backward?

You are assuming that he has waited 50 years to start looking! Just because the story has only just appeared on WAB doesn't mean that he's only just started looking.

It is 'faculties'

Well if we assume his mother is the same age as the average Barnsley women giving birth (so a teenager then) she could well be alive.

God some people are so negative why would you make comments like that to a man who just wants to find his mother?! You obviously have a sad life yourself

good luck john in your search and i hope you get the outcome you sincerely hope for... and even though she didn't want anything to do with your sister doesn't necessarily mean she may still feel the same now.... times change and so do feelings so you never no, but if she does say she wants nothing to do with you then at least you tried and can go on with your life knowing you did.... and as for the above comment by ....., searching for lost relatives isn't an easy job some people live with the fear of being rejected again etc and some find it difficult to find a way of were to start.... as in some cases searching for those lost relatives can put strain on ones life and that of the lost relative especially if you don't no the circumstances as to why they gave you up in the first place... some people can go 70 years or more before they look for others... and as it clearly states john doesn't no much about his mum so with lack of resources hes probably had a hard time getting the information he does no about her now therefore resulting in the lengthy time gap.... and just because shes in her 70's doesn't necessarily mean shes no longer here etc didn't you see the post about barnsley's eldest living resident who's just celebrated her 113th birthday!!!!

Good luck with your search -One of my hobbies is family trees so I have a fair idea how long it can take to find relatives !!!!---There was a Moxon family from Worsborough Common , seem to remember a Roy born about 1956
