Ian Day you inconsiderate moron are bus drivers not entitled to time off to spend with their families and loved ones? It makes me sick that some people and companies can be so inconsiderate to other peoples needs.

My dad use too work on the Railway for 45 years and he worked 365 days and when i was a child i had to wait for him to come in to open my presents. Shops are open Boxing Day, so buses should run.

Am a woman lol n yeah am a great mum to my kids I do what I need to do to get my kids all the great things they've put on there lists for Christmas n birthdays n yeah if shops are open so should the buses run normal timetable

Reply Posted by mrspoon on Friday December 6 2013 at 01:15
if the shops are open then buses should run however if buses in sheffield cannot run on boxing day without financial support from the council so theres no chance of them running in Barnsley where less people use the bus

London buses run every day apart from Christmas Day. On New Years Eve the buses go through the night and the tubes run late. After midnight transport is free. TFL manage this through sponsorship with a drink companies. Usually Diageo.

Only day off they should get is christmas day. Get real Jill a lot of us have to work boxing day, why shouldn't bus drivers?

Reply Posted by lee on Thursday December 12 2013 at 01:44

We as carers work Xmas an boxing day an new year so why can't buses run boxing day

Reply Posted by retail worker on Monday December 9 2013 at 14:12
I too work in retail and its one of the busiest days of the year. On another note the more reliable public transport available would lessen the risks of drink drivers would it not???

Reply Posted by Haha on Monday December 9 2013 at 14:14
Busses don't run Boxing Day. Simple as. A wunt want to work Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year's Day myself so I certainly don't expect it of other people. But as always there's folk only thinking about number 1. The above poster was right, inconsiderate is what it is.

i agree too !

Reply Posted by annalise on Monday December 9 2013 at 15:18
but how many of you would actually use the bus service if it ran on boxing day though? not many i reckon. no point wasting money operating a service that wont be used

Reply Posted by le on Thursday December 12 2013 at 01:50
here here ! we need a break too

Reply Posted by Donna on Monday December 9 2013 at 15:21
Bus drivers and there families deserve a nice Christmas too. If you need or want to travel ask friends and family for lifts of not use a taxi. If you wanna shop, online shops are open 24/7 and don't need to pay for fares. It's that simple. Now stop your moaning, it's the same crap every year. They have never run these days in the whole time I've lived here.

Reply Posted by disgusted on Monday December 9 2013 at 17:23
Why are bus drivers always the baddies. Yes they want holidays with THEIR families. If your employers NEED you to work they are obliged to find you transport. If you have the option to stay at home do so. it's going to be freezing. Christmas is a time for families, not for seeing how much you can spend. As for sales. Just remember they are off loading all the crap they couldn't move before Christmas. Is it an emergency to go and get next years cards and decorations or damaged turkeys. Surely the shops are open the next day. Grow up. Babies and toddlers cry when they can't have their own way. Adults make the best of a bad thing.

As a working person I think one day is not enough for the drivers they need a break from the pratts they carry through the year and a day off from baby sitting these loonatics wi mi cards who ride round with there buddys causing trouble and a day or 2 away from the youth club (THE BUS STATION) and just idiots, drunks and druggys they carry most days. The drivers have kids and wives. For me have a good Christmas drivers and wind down!

For me the drivers should be off xmas day and boxing day to spend time with there loved ones and enjoy xmas,,for the folk who are working good on you but they will be plenty of taxis around.

Buses used to run everyday but on a reduced timetable for things like shops and hospitals it was always done by the single ones, as people still had to get to work like hospitals etc life goes on, life sure has changed over the years, not much common sense these days and everyone is entitled to have holidays, that has never been in dispute but there is always solutions if they really want to sort things all three things really needed , common sense, consideration and volunteers

I'm working boxing day, New years eve and new years day an all days in between, I need to get on bus to get to work but cause of this I now need to pay double/triple pay taxis that will cost me more a day in transport then I earn

Reply Posted by Fred on Wednesday December 11 2013 at 20:23

well if I was in charge NO1 would work on boxing day new year eve or new years day :) x

I would just like to point out that taxi drivers have families too. So should their families miss out then? I personally don't think anyone should work on Boxing Day or Xmas day as it is a public holiday but due to PUBLIC demand companies open.

Reply Posted by Kikkenny on Wednesday December 11 2013 at 20:28
sorry Steph .But if there is money to be made and the double time the taxi;s charge..taxi drivers and family sould be glad no competition from the buses. What more can folk moan about next!

Reply Posted by Emma on Wednesday December 11 2013 at 20:25
yeah bus drivers should have time off but end of day people have to work christmas say and boxing day new years eve and new years day so why should bus drivers get time off when there is other people working like normal!! My mother who looks after people at end of life shes working all day christmas and doesnt have much breaks as she has to travel to there houses to make sure there safe, clean, and fed!

Having read through all these posts it looks like a lot of ( I) in here. If I HAVE TO WORK WHY CANT OTHERS.Bus drivers havent to work so why shouldnt they have time off. Many years ago I had to work 365 days a year I just got on with it and didnt blame others for not being there to take me to work

Reply Posted by Elizabeth on Wednesday December 11 2013 at 20:33
Do anybody know of a taxi firm who will work on Boxing Day without charging double fare? Thanks

Reply Posted by taxi on Wednesday December 11 2013 at 20:43
@elizabeth,if you need the bus on boxing day for a journey to work, are you being paid double time or time and a half? Just wondered.

No use complaining about it, Stagecoach ain't gunna suddenly change things. So just because you can't drive or don't have another means of transport you want other hard working people such as drivers to have to work on these days that should be spent with family's? Have you really heard yourselves??? Cut them a break for goodness sake

Reply Posted by Meee... on Wednesday December 11 2013 at 20:50
Bus drivers always cop for it, let them enjoy xmas day and have a few drinks without having to worry about driving the next day! Its stagecoach decision not to operate i expect based on knowledge the service would not be financially viable.

Reply Posted by Roger on Wednesday December 11 2013 at 20:50
I work in Barnsley and rely on the bus for work." But must I stress " When I took the job I knew I had to work over the xmas period.I also have a family. but sadly it is tough $hit the buses are not running.I just have to make alternative arrangements. Taxi most likely.People stop bloody moaning and show some respect..All people think is about ME ME ME ,Grow up and deal with it,the bus drivers are on holiday and spending some quality time with the family..Just like I will be doing when I have my days off! have great xmas all the bus drivers!

Reply Posted by Steph on Wednesday December 11 2013 at 20:53
Sorry so if a bus driver gets offered double or triple time then they should work? Most jobs pay more than normal on Boxing Day as it is a bank holiday so why shouldn't taxi drivers ask for more? What people don't realise with a taxi driver is they might charge you £10 to get from a to b but they don't see all of that £10 some goes on maintenance of the car, tax, commission or radio rent, fuel etc. just my opinion.

Reply Posted by june on Wednesday December 11 2013 at 21:04
The buses probably don't run due to not been Financially viable..Bums on seats..most jobs have expenses. But in my opinion if I was a taxi driver I would be glad the buses wern;t running.more passengers and more money..sorry but you have to get the money when you can.

the services that are operating in sheffeild in xmas day n new years are heavily subsidised by the local council and the drivers are being paid around £40 an hour , can you imagine barnsley council meeting those sort of costs i think not !

Reply Posted by Daniel on Thursday December 26 2013 at 12:06
on the stage coach buses it stated that certain services would be running from 8am til 6pm on boxing day yet i cant find what times they will be running, but yet everywhere i look there are no service times for these buses.

while i can apreciate drivers need thier time off this is going to put me in major dificulties. i have a medical condition so i cant drive BY LAW i also have a job i rely on bus servies to get me to work as with every year i only get one of the mentiond days of each year this year is crimbo eve its a pot luck hat thing of what days you get the people with children take priorty on crimbo day. so i am in work crimbo day boxing day new years eve and new years day i live 15 miles away from work and noramly it would cost me a weekly tiket and 2 busses each way for a total traval time of 1 hour 15 mins i realy on busbes for EVERTYHING for all the buses i need for work shops docotrs and to see family even to go to A+E when i have an attack thats not a major one. while i can undertsand crimbo day i cant agree at all with any of the rest. a taxi to my place of work is £25 each way at normal rates as over crimbo they charge upto tripple rates on all of those days. im going to pay more to get to work then i will acteruly make in the day. after all buses are PUBLIC TRANSPORT and many disbaled elderly young and working people rely on that transport being avalable its bad enough having to pay time and half for a taxi to work at 7am on a sunday moring as thiers no busses before 9am now they do this and totaly stop bus services. surely even a couple in the morning and a couple in the evening would not be to much to ask for 6am 8am 6pm 10pm shurley that would hellp people like me out masivley and avoid the whoel sory boss i cant make it to work today as it will cost me to much to come in ok your fired then situations
