Worst Season Since 1973 Continues As Own Goal Beats Reds

Monday November 25 2013

THE Reds' four-match unbeaten run came to an end on Saturday after a Scott Wiseman own goal condemned them to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Millwall.

The defender, who made his international debut with Gibraltar on Tuesday, headed Liam Feeney's cross into his own net in the 75th minute.

David Flitcroft's side came back into the match with Marcus Pedersen and Jacob Mellis threatening David Forde in the Millwall goal.

The Reds pushed for an equaliser but defeat means they have made their worst start to a season since 1973 and remain in the relegation zone with 11 points from 16 matches.

"I'm baffled how we haven't got something out of that game," said Flicker.

"It's disappointing as we had several great chances but I still think we didn't test their goalkeeper enough.

"Defensively we were excellent. They never looked like scoring - we dominated."

Next up for the Reds is Birmingham. The fellow strugglers visit Oakwell on November 30.

Are you still confident that Barnsley can avoid another end-of-season relegation battle? Has Flicker still got your trust? Have your say below.

this man should have been sacked after 2 games this season.he is clueless. i agree with comments previous. cymka.."should" be included in the first team every game.against the wendies for e.g. he took off paddy and replaced with the goon from germany??. cymka would have had the same effect as paddy had he put him on. lets get a few things straight. yes he did very well last season.(flitcroft). he kept us up. so why did he change from a 442 to other at the start of this season. which consequently has cost us points. i do think we have a good team. but the manager cannot take them any further. there will be fans saying we have short memories. memories are just that in football. liking someone and hoping he can do the job. are 2 different things. some will say my opinions are negative. i do not. i think i am being positive. some will ask.."who"..look out there at the managers unemployed. there are loads. be positive barnsley football club. get rid of flitcroft now.!! my message to the fans who want him to stay is. if we go down you have gotten exactly what you wanted. because you supported flitcroft. if we go down i will never ever set foot in oakwell ever again. and my reason for this is because the football club has allowed it to happen. and in my view it could have been avoided. and they fail to see this.

What a load of crap!!! so you think sacking someone is positive??? Do the opposite - keep him and if BFC go down support him and the club. Who the hell is going to come to a club that struggles year on year as last year proved when they searched for a manager, so what's changed this year - stability is what's required and then build from that. If they go down, it's because they're one of the three worst clubs in the division and deserve to, but I'm sure no supporter is 'wanting them' to go down. Bye the way if they do go down and you decide never to step foot in Oakwell thanks for all your efforts - loyalty and all that.

Which is exactly my point - stay loyal to the team. Don't desert them because of the fact that the team may be relegated. No team and especially a team like Barnsley is immune from relegation but if you make statements like 'I'll never step foot in Oakwell again' then thanks, goodbye and enjoy sky sports.

Should play Cywka, Shouldn't have loaned out Lazarus when we have a team scared to shooy. Should have given wiseman away long ago and not let Bobby lose fitness and sharpness. Glad McNulty loaned out, wish Wiseman would follow. He has had a few good games of late but overall he can't cut it.Perks gets into the best shooting positions but unlike Mellis won't shoot, yet he plays Mellis on the wing? Drop players that play poorly and when we have a team that doesn't shoot, leakes goal and (aside from the Reading game) gives up when things aren't handed to them or seem not to be going their way. The Doncaster game was the best example, they were the worst team I've seen come to Oakwell yet we had no killer instinct no drive to get the win, just maybe not to lose - it is getting pathetic. All this talk of a rebrand, you can't pollish a BFC.

Be honest Barnsley Sheffield weds are first division sides, they would settle in top ten occasionally get a cup run and sit exactly in the football tables. Barnsley don't have the investment to support a championship side. Any as soon as an individual shows great promise we sell due to ( allegedly the player has it written into his contract ) read into that what you wish.

Have to disagree hoyland; as much as I like Flitcroft for his enthusiasm and for what he did last season, his inexperience is brutally exposed this season. He was perfect for the backs to the wall, all in it together, escape act last season. But those qualities are sadly non existent now.The standard of football is now poor, or should that be hoofball? The table doesn't lie, and he has had money to improve from last season. Granted nowhere near what some teams can. afford in this league. We should have pushed on from last season, where we were not just competing with the top teams but beating them. Now we can't beat poor teams like donny and wendy. Results have to improve dramaticaly and quickly, or I Am afraid he really has to go

Quote - 'I have reached a decision that I will not go anymore'. Then you are not a supporter of the team - FACT, so don't tell anyone else to do your dirty work and get someone sacked - FACT.

Best thing for the town now a lot of fans have deserted the place..Knock it down and built houses, thats what the town needs not a team on a downward spiral..
