Polish Cage Fighter Fined

Wednesday November 27 2013

Barnsley Magistrates' Court Barnsley Magistrates' Court

A POLISH cage fighter has been fined £200 - after being found living in his car.

Adrian Pociecha, 35, had to be kept in police cells overnight after being found in a Volkswagen in Wombwell.

Jayne Ormrod, prosecuting, told Barnsley Magistrates' Court Pociecha had no insurance, held a provisional UK driving licence and was in the car unsupervised.

Pociecha, who was not represented by a solicitor, said he was living in his car because he had no friends he could stay with.

He said he earned about £200 every time he fought.

Pociecha admitted having no insurance and driving otherwise in accordance with a licence.

He was freed from custody and was warned even parking the car at the side of the road without insurance would lead to him appearing in court again.

Pociecha, of no fixed address, was ordered to pay £85 in costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

Well evidently they're not looked after more than 'our own people' based on this lad being homeless.

Have a word with yourself you ignorant, childish bigot.

his car should be compounded until insurance is obtained and a legally qualified driver collects it... or its crushed. In January 2014 and we are going to have lots of these situations when the open door policy for Romania comes into effect. We need a workable policy to be set up that is fair and equal to all

Reply Posted by anon on Wednesday November 27 2013 at 12:19
no home no friends and no legal job why ever is he here in the uk time the government got out of the EU

Reply Posted by pfft on Wednesday November 27 2013 at 12:25
@kinglouis - Yes we may need a workable policy to deal with uninsured drivers, but I dare say plenty of people are driving uninsured due to them having to live in poverty. Its more important that policy makers address the issues that give rise to people having to do things such as drive without insurance. If the man can't afford rent, he can't afford the insurance either or the fine.
People ought to remember that there are lots of people on the roads without insurance and others who drink drive or drive without a licence for various reasons. This man's nationality shouldn't come into it! Why is the fact that he is Polish even emphasized here?

Ashamed to be from barnsley with some moronic comments on here, wish people would get over nationalities and focus on us as a race. Anyone on the street deserves help, be that Polish, English or anyone else for that matter. How exactly is this man sponging of us if he lives in a car? He isn't at all. Most of the spongers here are English anyway, take it none of you saw the report last month about how foreigners are actually contributing to out economy than taking from us? Didn't think so. All the big places in the world are multi cultural, why not make a statement and help barnsley thrive instead of this silly single minded approach? But hey, I'm sure all I'll get is abuse for even contemplating the idea of helping someone who's not from 'tarn'

Allowing people to come here to live off their wits/fists is pathetic.

Of course they are contributing to our economy, the fat cat bosses are the big winners from exploiting cheaper Eastern European labour.

It is now estimated that for every pound earned by an immigrant worker some 27p goes back to their respective home countries, so tell me how the HELL can immigration and immigrant workers be "good for our economy"?

Reply Posted by Janet on Wednesday November 27 2013 at 13:20
And if he weren't Polish? Change the name to Jack Jones and half the arguments here disappear - then he's just an ordinary bloke down on his luck. Which could be any one of us.
He does need to find a better place to park his car and get it sorned. Though with winter only just upon us he would be at severe risk.
He ought to be offered a flight home so at least he could be with family.

Reply Posted by STEVEO on Wednesday November 27 2013 at 13:50
irrespective of the rights and wrongs of this case, there's one thing that I can say, why on earth would anyone go to a foreign country without having work or a home to go to in the first place.
Mr Pociecha should have looked on the EURES website, there are 600,000 uk vacancies on there.

Alternatively, he should have gone to a Polish recruitment agency back home as they offer plenty of vacancies in out town such as Asos and Symphony.

With regards to the car he was driving, there are a few of the Polish lads at work who don't have proper licences and insurance to drive on the UK roads, the Police should be actively stopping foreign drivers (same as the French Police do) and checking if their paperwork is in order, but they don't as they have been told NOT to stop foreign drivers by fear of being labelled Racist (what a load of bollocks!) by the politically correct namby pamby chief inspectors.

Poland is in the EU you idiots, therefore he is not an immigrant in much the same way as anybody from here could go and live in Poland if they wanted to. So there are no "papers" for the police to check. And clearly the police HAVE interacted with the guy, as he's been in court!

noun: immigrant; plural noun: immigrants

a person who comes to live permanently in a foreign country.
"they found it difficult to expel illegal immigrants"

synonyms: newcomer, settler, incomer, new arrival, migrant, emigrant.

I would like to let you all know, that Mr Pociecha has worked hard for the last few years in one of the factories. He was paying a decent amount of tax and insurance out of his wage, worked overtimes, where many people just cant be asked. He did not want to rely on British government in respect of benefits and other help, so decided to alive a difficult financial situation in his own car! So respect each other, especially a man who did not have anywhere to go and act like humans, not animals. I am sure, if he could chose somewhere else, he would never chose Barnsley to live in !

Tell me Monika, did you just wake up one morning and think " ooh i'll get a plane over to England and see what's happening over there"?
No you came for one thing and one thing only, money, and a damn site more money that you could ever wish to earn back in Poland.

We both know this, and before you give me the old "you are being racist" line, then don't bother because that shit doesn't wash with me.

Monika. I live and was born in Barnsley.I have been lucky to work all my working life.I was earning around £9 hour plus bonuses 10 years ago,The company started employing foreign workers from agencies on less than half what I was earning. Then gradually we were treated like robots to grind us down, all breaks were timed, work was monitored to rule.toilet breaks monitored,it became a very bad environment were going to work became unbareable.it was a chioce the top earners could have there contracts bought out.70% accepted. And I am not Racist! The problems with coming into UK. The companies now exploit all foreign workers which has a knock on effect to the local workers..Wages will never be above average so you are struggling live comfortably,Agencies taking the cream,Zero hours.i do understand the immigrants want a better life and the wages are a lot better in the UK.But the good days and all the good wages are a thing of the past..I bought my own home had a nice car and holidays every year.i feel for the young generaration as there have very little chance to get on the housing market because the wages will not allow them..

Reply Posted by Graham on Sunday December 1 2013 at 13:38
Sorry forgot to mention, not all were Foreign workers, some local workers but only through an agency.I remember near xmas one year all the agency lads were laid of 2 days before factory closed for xmas.some were in tears has there were promised contracts and holiday pay over xmas.Back to work JAN and more agency workers..

What makes me laugh is that half of the morons on here from "tarn" don't work, and so don't contribute. It's no wonder that the rest of the country thinks that Barnsley is a joke! I think that before they come on here "having a go", half the people need to learn how to spell!

James - working on my way out, some folk are just so single minded it's unreal, maybe he had a job, probably contributed more than half of the natives here anyway and lost his job? Doesn't matter where you're from, this guy needs looking after, I agree whole heatedly that if they are here illegally then yeah sure they should be sent back, but people don't just move countries off no reason, if you could support your family by moving to Poland would you? But whatever, I'm sure I'll just get the 'this is England' response. The thing that makes me laugh is it's the same people who hate Germans because of 'the war' in which the nazis acted on the statements you're making. But that could be a little complex for most of Yorkshire. Thanks Janet, it's comforting to know I'm not the only person who still cares about the human race rather than 'the English' one

People keep saying 'charity begins' at home. Well, actually it all depends on who the individual choses to give to.
I chose to give some of my money to a homeless fella I always see. I don't give to charities, I give to him. He is also not originally from this country. He's fallen on hard times, like so many of us do and so many of us are very near to.

Mad Bad & Dangerous is right. At the end of the the second world war, everyone had empathy for those in European countries that the fascists targeted and killed. We are always talking about the courage of our soldiers and rightly so, but now so many in this town are turning to those opinions of the far-right, as if they offer real answers to this town's economic situation. They don't (and I'm not saying any of the main three parties do either).

I also praise what Monica says. The man was too proud to take from the system and prefered to suffer in his own care, after taking one of thise jobs that some of us in our own town turn our noses up at.

People should be ashamed of those fascisistic opinions they have. They do nothing but hurt people. Yet, as soon as it is them that is targeted, they're the first to complain.

Yes, those vile people that are the government should be doing more for it's own, and we should never turn a blind eye at those that sufferin, are less well off or that have been misstreated and hurt by the system.

And this page should know better than to start a story with someone's ethnicity or job, when it has no relevance.
If people cared to look back into their familiy histories, they'd realise that many of us 'native' Britons' family-lines come from overseas

Reply Posted by STEVEO on Sunday December 1 2013 at 13:25
GRIM you bandy the terms Fascist and Racist around far too much for my liking and I doubt you actually know what the term Fascist means.

There is no "racism" when we speak of Eastern European immigrants, they are all of white European origin so how can one be deemed racist when speaking of said eastern Europeans?

Tis the politically correct namby pamby idiots such as yourself and Hoyland Red that deems speaking of eastern Europeans racist and the eastern Europeans themselves when they hear something that they do not like.

This story typifies just what the 'Tories' are doing, pander to the fears of the minority about 'immigration' and ignoring the fact that as far as immigrants go they are less likely to claim benefits and as for paying taxes on wages earned by the 'foreigners' I think the government is up! They have moved the focus, and we the people have allowed them, from the real issues like pensions, Austerity, banks, power companies, big business profits and their own wages / pensions. So like fools we argue amongst ourselves over non issues rather than the real ones.
Wake up !

@Graham - I am afraid that is the marketplace mate. Nearly all Anglo- American businesses are profit driven. When they need unskilled labour they will pay the lowest price possible for it so shareholders get the biggest profits. The only way out is to retrain and get a position where there are more jobs than jobseekers. I do realise retraining is difficult when you have a mortgage to pay and bills too x

As a factory worker 30 years ago,we had to clock in,had our breaks timed, and had to sew/cut whatever department you were on,to a time and motion speed. The pay was good in some departments, poor in others. Our holidays had to be taken when the factory closed . I'm not being sarcy here, but are things at Asos much worse than that? One thing though,we did have contracts and more importantly, a union.
