Barnsley Tycoon Pledges Backing To UKIP

Tuesday November 19 2013

A BARNSLEY-BORN tycoon has pledged 'whatever it takes' to ensure the UK Independence Party triumphs at next year's European Parliament elections.

Paul Sykes, born in Cudworth in 1943, said UKIP was the last best hope for Britain and would help fund its election campaign.

Party leader Nigel Farage said the backing was a 'significant boost'.

Sykes, who is estimated to have a fortune of around £650million, is the son of an ex-miner and left school with no qualifications.

He said he believed the European elections were 'the one last chance to stop the gradual erosion of our national independence'.

"If, as I hope and believe, UKIP score a stunning national victory, then the leaders of the other main parties will have no choice but to abandon their slavish support for the EU," he said.

"I am prepared to do whatever it takes to propel them to victory next year."

UKIP has reached unprecedented heights in the opinion polls under Mr Farage, coming second in the European elections in 2009 and winning hundreds of seats in May's local elections.

Another non news story from WAB. Don't forget Paul Sykes used to donate to the very party that brought in the Bedroom Tax and the very party that was once led by Barnsley old favourite Margret Thatcher. Why doesn't Paul Sykes donate money to the lace where he was born and raised, ?. To my knowledge he has done nothing to help the communities where he was born and is now donating to a party which on the Political spectrum is to the right of the Tories, and nothing but a collection of bigoted, Racist upperclass twits.

racist because they want to stop an increasing flood of immigration to a country already under pressure...look around you , the loads of euro influx are taking the unskilled jobs usually taken by our youths thats why are youth unemployment is running at a alltime high......barnsley truth..more like barnsley spin

Ha ha barnsley truth ... Good luck to him and UKIP .. The current state of British politics is nigh on corrupt and doesn't represent hardly any views of 'normal' folk .. The three main parties spout nonsensical political rheteroric and people are too foolish to vote fur anyone else .. Europe is no more than a political old boys network .. Only relevant for current or wannabe players .. Time to get out and save some money .. Well done sykesy .. Putting your money where your mouth is !!

I bet Barnsley truth blindly votes for Labour. ............ because he/she is from Barnsley!!

Lost your bet, there and made an incorrect assumption regarding hometown, I do not blindly vote for anyone, I am as disillusioned as anyone with the state of British politics and voice my protest by abstaining from any form of voting in local or national polls. I was merely expressing my consignation at Paul Sykes disrespecting his heritage to such an extent that he financial supports racists and bigots, @Andy if you are naive enough to believe that UKIP only has eyes on Europe you are very much mistaken their manifesto also includes abolition of the NHS and a major reduction in state pensions and government controlled pension schemes ( ex miners, posties, nurses, teachers etc.) will be affected by this, support them at your peril.

Being one that is a "political watcher" I always take an interest in party politics and policies in particular.
What Barnsley Truth has posted above about UKIP is indeed correct and I would IMPLORE anyone thinking of voting for UKIP to check out their policies FIRSTLY before casting your vote.

The only quasi "credible" UKIP policy is the one on immigration and as we all know this is one of if not the biggest concern of the UK voter at the minute.
Yes UKIP say they will do something about immigration but again, I urge the voter to look a little closer at UKIP immigration policy as said UKIP immigration policy has "Nazi esque" attitudes and attributes that have no place in our modern democratic country.

Yes many people on here know my own views on immigration, especially in the world of work in our town but I can categorically state that I would NEVER vote UKIP even if they were the only party left to vote for.

UKIP policy is basically copied and pasted directly from Tory policy but is even more right wing, again look at the policies before you decide which box your x is going in.

No interest in this fellas 'politics' however if he is happy enough to 'waste' his money on the UKIP party why not throw it the way of Barnsley. He is a business man, so bring that business to Barnsley employ a few locals - show your love for your country of birth by spending money in/on your town of birth. Here's a thought what about a scheme to help the youngsters - training / apprenticeships / jobs - use the funds for a 'good news positive' story not towards a bunch of jingoistic idiots who just want to be at the feeding trough with the rest of them

dedatodd, is that not the job of the council and government.
Mr Sykes political are pure and simple; get out of European Union, this can only be achieved via politics. A man who puts his money where is mouth is is a very rare thing and should be applauded.

He's in a position to help but has he forgotten where he comes from? He'll be better remembered round here by doing something for Cudworth.

Show us where the jobs are Paul, give us the benefit of your experience, open a proper job centre that does more than get us to re-write our CVs every week. You'll never be accepted by the ruling elite, you can't buy class. There's enough money down south, why send more down there?

Their manifesto does not include the abolition of the nhs. That is a lie. Are you sure that you don't blindly vote Labour because you lie like a socialist! If you don't vote then you have no right to complain about the state of this once Great Britain.

Just to add to the post I put on in reply to another above...

At the end of the day its up to him where he puts his money, but at last count Paul Sykes has donated to all the main political parties apart from the Lib Dems, perhaps Mr Sykes was scared when the Lib Dems said they would increase income Tax?

Don't be fooled by Sykes either, yes hats off to the man for making a shed load of money despite being almost illiterate.

Sykes has "backed" many ponies before, perhaps to gain more credibility and to raise his profile?

Last time we saw Sykes in the news was when he was "unveiled" as a major investor when Meadowhall was being built.

cant knock him for wanting to change things we the people have been complaining about. in not sure what all their policies are. or what is on all of any parties manifesto. why are words bigot and racism being batted around?.all parties are bigoted and racists. its just that they cant say it. they use different words. or they use different ways of putting messages across. yes mr sykes does have a lot of money.barnsley truth. you have a word in your post.."heritage" not sure what you mean with that one. he made his money by having some brains. hard work and innovation. steveo. you mention being rid of the nhs. lets all be honest here. the nhs has been a tug of war with all political parties over the years. lets face it, the nhs is going to go at some point. theres never a good time. so why not get rid of it now. its a burden on taxpayers. were half way there to privatisation with lots of taxpayers having private operations and medical care. so. now that we have had the pits privatised. and the electricity. and the gas. and the water. because it was all a burden on the taxpayers. we shouldnt really have much tax to pay should we?. because it will all be privatised.

Reply Posted by STEVEO on Wednesday November 20 2013 at 14:55
Observer (...) I never actually mentioned getting rid of the NHS anywhere on any of my posts on this page.
We would all be foolish to think that the NHS will never be privatised, in fact several specialist areas of the NHS are already privatised and are run my private companies that have links to the conservative party, surprise surprise, we are all in this together my arse.

Its all well and good looking at UKIP and thinking "oh they'll sort the immigration issue out" Look at that particular UKIP policy in greater detail and you will see that it is nothing better than right wing Nazi rhetoric.

As I have said on many occasions, are people really that idiotic to think that the Tories are not going to come out with a "new" Immigration policy with less than two years from the general election to target the impending influx of Eastern Europeans next year?

In fact just today the first reading of a bill in the house of commons has taken place to amend the immigration bill.

As mentioned above, Sykes only cares about making money hence the huge amount of wealth quoted above.
Why on earth would everyday people straddling the lines of poverty with children who have very little to look forward to and whose town is falling to pieces, why would we care what Sykes does? Why would we want another fat cat involved in politics in any way? Surely there are enough of them down south?
Just because someone makes a load of money does not make them suited to politics or anything else really.

Yeah, cantankerous rich man votes with his wallet for the party that will look after his interests. Didn't one of UKIP's high profile members recently say that the jobless shouldn't be allowed to vote? So easy to imagine that he means lazy spongers but people forced out of their jobs for whatever reason would be tarred with the same brush. UKIP are little Englanders who will look after their own at the expense of everyone else, including the people of Barnsley. A party for cantankerous rich men, bigots and racists.

Totally agree skeptic.
They also said that all disabled people should be sterilised to prevent them from having children.
We have heard this before haven't we?
It was originally called the T4 Euthanasia programme that the Nazi's implemented.
For those not in the know, the Nazis murdered thousands of disabled people by gassing them.

The Tories have an active euthanasia programme but they call this Atos / DWP.

Back to the topic in hand, vote UKIP at your peril.....

you have been warned.
