Crime Commissioner Wants To Raise Profile

SOUTH Yorkshire's Police and Crime Commissioner wants to raise his profile - as he thinks a third of people don't know who he is.

Shaun Wright was speaking about his role on the anniversary of his election to office - after a poll found one in three people do not know who their PCC is.

A spokeswoman for Mr Wright said: "The poll found 35 per cent of people don’t know who their police and crime commissioner is - but that means 65 per cent do.

"Compared to 12 months ago when the Commissioner was elected, I think that’s quite a leap.

"Yes, he can walk down the street without people knowing who he is, but it’s only one year in, it’s early days, and over the next couple of years things will change.

"It's important they know who he is and what he is doing."

The spokeswoman said Mr Wright’s priorities for next year include improving police visibility in the community, recruiting 650 specials by 2015, and cutting crime and anti-social behaviour.

She said another key priority was protecting vulnerable people.

"This year that was children, next year it will be women, and in 2015 it will be the elderly,” she added.

Who did they poll? There is no way 2 out of 3 people know who the PCC is. Is this the same poll where nationally only 1 in 6 knew who PCC are, or even what one is? I heard him on the radio this morning saying what a great success he has been in his 1st year. Not sure about that, how many arrests has he made? And he put our Council Tax up.

He is a short sighted clown who is only interested in furthering his own political career.

Could always take a leaf out of that American mayors book - smoke crack and beat someone up at the next public meeting. Bet your profile will go through the roof!

He needs to confiscate all personal mobile phones off his PC's when they come into work. Then they would not have access to social media. Then we would not have to hear them wittering about how hard done by they are regarding pensions etc. Rubbish. For the amount of training they do, they earn a good wage. Compare it to a microbiologist who has four years at uni plus CPD training.

A lot of them are bigoted, racist and homophobic, especially at PC level.

Does a micro biologist have to face drugged and drunken violent persons, burglars in the early hours of the morning, deal with the aftermath of rapes, serious assaults or carry out death warnings to victims families...........er No.

A lot of micro biologists may be racist or homophobic..........

Sorry I meant to say 'I would not have to hear them wittering'

I don't hate the police. I have read the autobiographies of Sir Ian Blair and Brian Paddick. He was a good man. He discouraged his officers in the Brixton area from nicking folk caught in possession of small amounts of dope. He could see the bigger picture. My god if you walk down Coldharbour Lane in Brixton on Saturday afternoon everybody is smoking dope. Even the Brixton stall-holders are puffing away. By the way, I do not smoke myself, I bloody hate the smell of it, tis dope central in my area. I just go to the market for my Jamaican produce. Ackee and Saltfish anyone?

Also some of SYP constables need to get off their high horses. I have seen FB posts slagging off the residents of Athersley and Kendray. I understand there are social problems in those areas but every town and city has them. I think it is revolting that some SYP PC takes a swipe at Kendray on FB. Decent folk live there. This really pisses me off. In London coppers get their commuting bill paid for. So they can live in say SouthEnd on Sea and get their fares paid for, which accounts for several thousand grand a year. Why should they get a perk like that. My bill for travel in London is £140 per month and I live in Zone Two. Milk Milk Milk

what has this story got to do with your £140 travel costs in London, this is about Shaun Wright who is doing a grand job for Barnsley folk..

@PC plod - Your English is appalling. Jesus Christ. If you really are a PC, they must be letting any **** in nowadays. I know they got rid of the height requirement but they must have got rid of the IQ element too!

Of course he wants to raise his profile.
Once he gets kicked out of his PCC job a career as a gravy trainer politician beckons.

Who else in their job feels they need to "raise their own profile" apart from popstars and politicians What a cock. No one wants you or to pay your 100+ grand a year. We want police to do their jobs not a politico narcisisst, he is everything that is wrong with politics and public service careerists combined

@hally1297 - Microbiologists deal with samples from human bodies every day. I think that is dangerous enough. The police get paid very very well for the short training they do.

Training continues throughout the 30 or 35 year career. Im sure the micro biologists will be well protected when dealing with bodies.

@hally1297 - it is hard to juggle a full time job with an MSc. Try and do it yourself love.

Thanks Sharon. I was being a wee bit sarcastic but well done all the same. And you are spot on, although some may say otherwise. Thanks....
