Its not really a suprise you can drive down westway and theres always somebody who wants to rum over road rather than wait for green man. Its always same its about time something got sorted on that road to stop people rushing over road

I doubt a 74yr old would be running across a road

It's not surprising at all.It doesn't matter how old they are, pedestrians just step out, run across, whatever all the time when traffic is clearly oncoming. I had a very close call early in the summer when I had to slam my foot on the break because some one did exactly that.

Having to slam brakes on indicates excessive speed

Jister, It's a 40 mile an hour road. Of course you would have to slam the brakes on. Think about it.

If you know it that well you should be prepared 40mph is max not min

If you new anything about the highway code you would know about keeping up with the flow of traffic. If it is a 40 then you should travel at that unless there are other circumstances.
You should not be travelling at 20 or 30 in a 40 not on a dual carriageway.

Slamming brakes on is an emergency stop it can be done at any speed. This morning 2 men ran across front of me 2 yards from crossing some people are very stupid at times.

One of them must have run a red light because if everyone observed the traffic signals a car VS pedestrian would not occur....

Where in the story does it say that the woman ran across the road in front of the vehicle or that the driver was travelling too fast ? Lot of assumptions here...

I was there at the scene n witnessed it, the lady walked across at the right time n had passed one lane of dual carriageway prior to being hit...other lane had slowed t stop as Amber went t red.... Also was told by police that lady was stable with no serious injuries... If u weren't there don't assume...
