Bus Changes Made Following Customers' Requests

Tuesday October 15 2013

A HOST of changes are being made to bus services in Barnsley following customers' requests.

From Saturday, October 26, Stagecoach is introducing improvements to seven of its key routes in response to comments from passengers.

On service X19 (Barnsley to Doncaster and Robin Hood Airport) an additional stop will be made on Doncaster Road, Goldthorpe.

The route of service 26 (Barnsley, Grimethorpe, Wombwell and Brampton) bus will be changed in Darfield to improve connections.

In Bolton-on-Dearne, Stagecoach is also changing the route on both service 217 and 218.

The 217 will now run from Canderra Rise, along Carr Head Lane and Thurnscoe Road to Highgate Lane, while the 218 will operate from Canderra Rise, along Billingley View and Carr Field Lane to Prospect Road.

On service 219 )Barnsley, Goldthorpe and Doncaster), the last bus from Barnsley to Great Houghton will extend to Thurnscoe.

Paul Lynch, managing director of Stagecoach Yorkshire, said: "We're always looking at ways to improve our network for the benefit of passengers.

"It’s fantastic when our customers provide feedback about journeys and, where possible, we use this to shape services and routes for the future.

"The changes we're making this month have come about as a result of passenger feedback and we hope they will further improve waiting and journey times."

wonder if you will Listen to you bus drivers when they call you up and state to you. "Dont go down Hoyland because of the ice" but you tell them just carry on with your job but your willing to public safety and pedestrian at risk then when the driver does have a crash with people on board you blame it on the council and sack the driver if your looking after customers don`t put profits FIRST im glad the driver did crash the bus as 100 yards down the hill there was about 20 kids at the bus stop and we was heading right for them ! my tip listen to the drivers and customers not just a office boffin that knows nothing or the council that just as bad

they have not listen to anyone in silkstone common and penistone since they cut the bus services down and limited the amount of buses that run up here and if you work long hours like myself there is no bus after 9:30pm or one at 6am anymore points less complaining you get nowhere with stage coach

Cant understand why the 26 route has to change at half past six to miss Great Houghton ending any direct service to Wombwell or Grimethorpe & Cudworth, once again Great Houghton suffers Wath gets a service every 10 minutes fair ???

Please put a bus on from Barugh Green to get into Barnsley for 9.30am on Sunday because Sunday is a working day nowadays. Don't suppose anybody's listening!

I hear you lola! Hardly a fair survey, the chap doing the questionnaire last week had 5 clipboards to hand out to a packed bus, and once handed in they weren't handed out again, despite him being on the bus for another 25 mins. I was pleased to fill one in - with comments all round the edges of the paper (not that hitting all the potholes made the writing very legible) but to no avail, just like letters and emails I've sent before, they didn't make a jot of difference! So fed up with buses breaking down (with no chance of finding out what's happening as the office doesn't open until a good hour after I need to get to work), and then paying out further to catch a train plus taxi to work because they've been reduced to one in 60 or 75 mins is utterly useless, and then the route being changed to force a fair old walk to and from work now with case and bags is no joke. Yeah ok, it goes into town, but we don't all work centrally and public transport is supposed to serve the whole community isn't it? Do any stage coach buses go up Racecommon any more? (There's been a number of elderly folk trying to get to Enable Barnsley who couldn't get a SC bus.) To further wind everyone up, the buses now stop for a few minutes every few miles, and we sit twiddling out thumbs, could be covering the missed areas in that time! Grrrrr. Thanks Stagecoach, marvellous service. >:(

Buses need to start earlier on a Sunday. I start work at 9 am. And have to spend money on a taxi

even tho i live 1.5 mile away from train station i'd rather walk that distance than use a bus

Stagecoach need to sort dodworth/gilroyd bus routes and times sorted. Especially in a morning...! People need to get to work and college and they get refused to get on buses or stand up cos its full of horizon kids who apparently dont require a school bus as they live close to school. 21 doesnt serve gilroyd anymore and old people and others have to either walk to other end of dodworth or walk to the train station..another problem gilroyd seems to have is buses not turning up or turning up late or 3 buses turn up in one go. People are going to stop using stagecoach if they do not listen to the people in dodworth/gilroyd

They're actually 'listening' to customer requests.....? Is that now why we have the ridiculous situation where Stagecoach 22X and First 22 together are now running the exact same Barnsley/Wath/Rotherham route TEN times every hour.....?

Its ridiculous. No buses up Racecommon Road to Dodworth or Silkstone etc so the elderly can't get their regular shopping done..., hardly any buses at night in Dodworth, The buses start too late on a Sunday, for people who need to go to work or folk who want to go visiting or out for the day, I am sick of having to catch a bus to Dodworth on a Morning with 100 shouting Horizon kids who take over the bus and won't be quiet or sit down..The buses are late, I have to walk home part the way on an evening cos the route changed from Dodworth to Barnsley as it doesnt service Kingstone, adds another 40 minutes to the journey home, I stopped buying a megarider cos the Tate buses (When on time) normally come first after 5pm. I have to pay double a week now. Rubbish. Lets see how people cope when its dark at 4pm and the bus service for the 21 and 22 cater for no-one except the school kids..

Stagecoach do NOT listen as i have wrote to them many times and nothing gets done even when it is a complaint about a driver for whatever reason and sometimes they can be just as bad. Stagecoach dont even know that some buses are missing parts of routes out regular like the 67. Also why they had to cut there service up aldham is beyond me there are more elderly up here who cant walk far, we have no bus after 6pm monday to saturday and no bus on a sunday. The bus service is shocking,

Bus company is a business that's only interested in making money, they not gonna put an early bus on just so Mrs Jones can get to work on time or buses on after 6pm just for a handful of people. you can complain until your blue in the face they will only change services if it suits them to make more money.

dunno why the buses have ta be altered, as for taking the 67 and now the 26 off the people around bellbrooke is appaulling, personally i use it for school and shopping but their is a lot of old folk that use these services and if they are withdrawn then they will be forced ta stay in rather than walking to the nearest stop.
these services need revising again and making more regular

Why stop 67 to darfield noow stopping 26 from bellbrooke ave! The point of the bungalows on bellbrooke close is for easiser bus service for elderly around that area. .. stagecoach are beyond the joke!!

Bring back 200 going up Hough Lane I used it alot especially in winter to get me up to station and back. Having a medical condition makes walking painful at times.

The 67 is the biggest joke going!!! Once every hour & it's the smallest bus in the world! It's actually quite dangerous to be on sometimes! & the amount of times it has broken down while I've been on it, & I don't even use it that often! It's a joke! It should be at least every 20/30 minutes I think. A lot of people use it & it would definitely be more convenient

Same old story anything west of the M1 is just forgotten maybe everyone west of the m1 should forget to pay council tax

Changing the 26 bus route so it doesn't go down belbrook is ridulous there are no buses that go down the estate at all so the elderly at the bottom of belbrook have to walk all the way to morrison rd and I myself have two young children who will have to do the same. What do we di when the weather's really bad stay at home and starve. Also when the 67 came into Darfield I could catch that and it would take make to the end of my parents street in Wombwell now i have to catch two buses to get there the 26 which now I have to walk to morrison road to catch.

I agree they should put 67 back on to go into Darfield. And stopping 26 going down belbrook is just insane the elderly have now got to walk all the way to morrison rd , I have two young children and will have to cross the busy saltersbrook rd as will the elderly not very good when you have bag's of shopping. Since taking the 67 off in Darfield I now have to catch two buses to go see my elderly parents who live in Wombwell with my kid's. Put the buses back.

Stagecoach don't listen to the passengers they do what they want .. anybody would think Great Houghton and little Houghton are in the middle of nowhere with how limited the bus services are !! There should be a service to manvers , cortonwood and parkgate as there are lot's of people unable to drive .

why change things about the service from goldthorpe to mexborough is far too long now the old route was better and the buses are getting later

and how about employing less grumpy drivers would it hurt for them just to be polite and friendly im from east midlands and they are mostly friendly down there and to be more considerate to people with disabilities too

We run a bus in Barnsley via hospital a few years ago , once stagecoach got wind we were making money, there put a bus 5 mins in front of us,it used to park at the hospital so we could not pull in,so we didn,t get any customers,,we stopped running the service has it was running at a loss,so then did stagecoach..there are greedy and not bothered about customers...

The only time I remember a proper survey taking place on a bus where EVERYONE had a chance to fill it in, as it was done on the same route over a period of a week was a few years back on the 265 route, it was always running late and when it did run, it was not keeping to time because of the lateness of the previous run, to be fair at the time they did listen and placed additional services.
My only gripe now with the bus service is that as I live in a really remote area (Huddersfield Road), that there is only one bus roughly every 2 hours, with the last bus being at 16:00, thus if the bus company did stop running that particular route, we would be 'stuffed', I am fortunate in that at a pinch I can walk to the next stop and catch buses from there, put people who are elderly and live even one stop nearer town are hardest hit, and the reason behind this? The fact that a bus has to go past the hospital every 10 minutes.
