New Irish Bar Could Be Coming To Town Centre

Wednesday October 9 2013

We Are Barnsley We Are Barnsley

AN Irish bar could be on its way to the town centre - if planning officials give it the green light.

Paul McNicholas, of Western Street, has applied to Barnsley Council to turn the vacant Johnson Cleaners UK, on Peel Square, into an Irish bar.

Plans to change the use of the building show the bar could open from 9am to 1am everyday, including Sundays and Bank Holidays.

It would serve wines, beers, spirits, hot and cold beverages and food. There would also be music and dancing.

Access to the building will be from Peel Square and the first floor will be accessed using an existing staircase.

The design will be all based on an Irish theme with wood panelling and dark brown colours in its design.

That'd be nice. O'Dwyer's never pulled itself together did it.

I won't hear a bad word said about O'Dwyer. He's always been a class actor in my book and should be a great asset to Coronation Street when he takes over the Rovers Return soon. Good on him I say.

There always seems to be travelling Irish folk stopping by so it'll give them somewhere to go.

Barnsley needs a more upmarket Rock Bar - quasi's is a dive but as it is the only place pulls in loads of folk.

This is great news it is something that has been sadly missed in the last year or so. A place for all old friends to meet up again and enjoy a drink. Good luck Paul you deserve it.

There's no better man to run an Irish Bar in Barnsley. He has the motivation and drive to make it work. He's been in the business long enough to have the experience to make it a success. I myself am Irish and I would certainly make an appearance once it opens. Good luck Paul. Slainte !

Do we not have enough pubs in Barnsley? Really?
No decent shops, dirty town centre, poor people with no money to pay essentials including so called bedroom tax but enough money to waste in town centre pubs?
Do we not have abough problems in the town without adding to it?

An irish man looks in a mirror "he looks familiar" he says. His mate who's also irish has a look, he says "its me you daft tw@t

Oh fantastic!! Another pub for the benefits money to be spent in! And there was me thinking the Labour town councillors actually cared about Barnsley to try to boost economy and create jobs?!?! Pubs only create very few jobs but put a strain on society....who's going to clean up the sick and blood and police this, with all the police cuts and Council cuts that are needed????

richard..short for dick...is there only people on benefits that drink in barnsley..get off the bandwagon you cretin

Nothing against paul hes a great guy but i think something new the kast irish bar failed tbecause of the same reason alot of the others from that day and age did because times change its not what it used to be anymore people dunt go out as much and in the number they used to the idea for a new bar is great like surf just not another irish bar something new and modern

Town has seen Irish pubs come and go, isn't there a reason they have all gone its not what people want. Look at city's around us Leeds Sheffield we need a modern cocktail bar somewhere nice for the "normal" Barnsley working class to enjoy a drink for a change.

What does LOL stand for? Layabout Offering Little!!

Richard short for Dick?? Unoriginal, cheap, unimaginative and pathetic. Quite what else I'd expect from the likes of you to result in insults remains a mystery. Cretin? I think not Eric!

I do

Reply Posted by Richard on Friday October 11 2013 at 19:01
Well I'm not going to try to challenge you on the intelligence stakes here. Clearly you're the winner and fully deserve the wooden spoon!

Reply Posted by .... on Friday October 11 2013 at 19:03
Dick you are 1 boring jumped up cretin

Reply Posted by Richard on Friday October 11 2013 at 19:15
Please note I have not needed to resort to silly childish name calling. Congratulations on your two wooden spoons!

Reply Posted by .... on Friday October 11 2013 at 20:26
Yaaaawn why dont you visit one of those ghastly pubs dick and have some fun if you understand the concept of fun. Then again don't bother no one wants to get saddled with the pub bore

Reply Posted by Richard on Friday October 11 2013 at 20:40
Yawn? Exactly, so you drink alone then I have to assume? Clearly if your idea of an ultimate night out is a pub in Barnsley town centre, then you're a real high flier and sorry I just can't keep up to your level! Looks like you're going for the full set of wooden spoons tonight!!

Reply Posted by Richard on Friday October 11 2013 at 22:32
How could you possibly keep up with a higher intelligence and know what's right and wrong when all you do is resort to personal insults? I've enjoyed this banter with you which is just one step above chewing an old ladies toe nails. I'm sure this has been the highlight of your week. Goodnight silly man.

Reply Posted by .... on Friday October 11 2013 at 22:53
Ha what a pathetic specimen. Higher intelligence! Indeed what a joke you're severely deluded little boy. You come on here trying to be clever and failing miserably you humourless child.Of course its a real highlight answering a nomark like you. Oh and your banter needs a lot of work young un you have the wit of a 2 year old

Reply Posted by Richard on Saturday October 12 2013 at 00:11
Oh that last one really got you to bite! :)

Reply Posted by .... on Saturday October 12 2013 at 08:46
You live in your own little deluded world dick splash, very strange

Reply Posted by san on Saturday October 12 2013 at 20:13
Why slag each other and call stupid childish playground names, everyone entitled to an opinion, I also think that there are too many bars and know for sure my money is better spent elsewhere

Reply Posted by Richard on Saturday October 12 2013 at 21:20
I can only apologise for that guy San. Please note that I didn't do any name calling. I was merely trying to give my opinion until this person piped up being derogatory towards me.

Richard aka "dick", I don't like the cut of your jib. I would challenge you to a battle of wits, but it appears you are severely challenged in that department.

Reply Posted by .... on Sunday October 13 2013 at 09:02
Don't apologise for me dick

Reply Posted by To Bossman on Sunday October 13 2013 at 09:42
Bossman? Fantastic name, you must be trying to compensate for something to call yourself BOSSMAN! I'm betting you look at yourself in the mirror each day and give yourself a knowing wink like a real winner! Sorry I can't stop laughing (at you)!

Gud on U Paul, Hope you are successful. Love the Irish people and music.
Maybe invite Benidorm Rovers (Shamrock Bar) on one of their over here tours. Be a change from The Sheppy Pub Maltby.
