Protestors to go to Manchester Protestors to go to Manchester

MORE than 200 Barnsley trade unionists and bedroom tax activists have booked places on coaches to go and protest in Manchester on Sunday.

September 29 will see protesters demonstrating outside the Conservative Party conference, with coaches leaving Eldon Street at 10am.

The chairman of Barnsley Trades Council, Malcolm Clements, said: "There's growing anger at the impact Tory policies are having on ordinary people's lives.

"We cannot wait until the next election before we fight back - we have to fight back now."

Its just a free day out for these people. Another hand out from society.

All this time they're spending running around protesting in vain could be used looking for a job so the Underoccupancy won't affect them anymore!

Reply Posted by Curious on Thursday September 26 2013 at 14:41
In my experience the vast majority ot Trade Unionists have a job and a large percentage of those affected by the "bedroom tax" are in work too, so the "get a job" jibes are quite simply indicating your own utter ignorance.

99% of the people going are working. Trade Union membership fees paid for the transport.

Wasting there time. The government won't change it. There is no money left and we need to claw some back from somewhere. There have been cuts and charges everywhere. Unfair? Yes it is. We've all had to suffer and tighten our belts. Tax payer or not.

There is vast wealth in this country - in the hands of the rich, big business etc. The gap between rich and poor is greater than ever. Taxing the rich and stopping tax avoidance and evasion would have meant there was no need for any cuts. The demonstration will have an impact - it is still not too late to join us!

Sounds like you are an extremely jealous person.

I bet that you are also a communist.

What a sad world you must live in.

Sounds like you are a Tory, Charles, Oh hang on.....

WHATS THE POINT

Reply Posted by sam on Friday September 27 2013 at 07:33
Get a grip and get it paid! When will these people ever learn that they're in the minority. The majority of the town agree with the so called "bedroom tax".

Does the idiot in the purple t- shirt in that photo ever take it off? He's always got it on. Mr protest himself!

Reply Posted by kay on Friday September 27 2013 at 07:36
Really annoying all this apathy!!! There is every point to peaceful protest and the 200 people from Barnsley are just a few of the 40,000 expected. Let this selfish government know that they cannot walk all over the working, disabled and poor people of this country. Get off yer backsides and do something instead of moaning groaning and crying about everything - in other words grow a pair and act to change the crap way we are being treated!!!!

Reply Posted by sue on Friday September 27 2013 at 17:56
You're the one moaning, groaning and crying Kim you cretin.

Reply Posted by Ken on Friday September 27 2013 at 08:40

Can't afford to pay your rent but it seems everyone can afford their smart phones, pc's etc.

Reply Posted by kay on Friday September 27 2013 at 12:23
Sad reflection of society today - can't believe these comments are coming fro Barnsley folk who fought the miners strike TOGETHER who wouldn't let a government walk all over them. You lot are a sad depressing reflection and no wonder Barnsley is going down hill with a bunch of right wing tories living there

Reply Posted by T on Friday September 27 2013 at 13:14
How can you compare this to miners strike? It's got no similarities. The people striking here are leeches on our fragile economic society. We have all had a increase in tax. Jesus Nation Insurance has rocketed for working people regardless of class. So why aren't the benefits claimants allowed to be scrutinized?

Reply Posted by Stotty on Friday September 27 2013 at 17:00
If there were more tory voters living here, I suspect we would have a significantly better and more prosperous town.

Reply Posted by Stevo on Sunday September 29 2013 at 19:22
What a ridiculous statement Stotty.
Being that our town was built on working class principles I don't see many Tories here do you?
Or "rich" People that still live in our town, yes theres plenty of ten bob millionaire's but nothing more.

Reply Posted by sarah on Friday September 27 2013 at 12:50
stop paying union fees and pay for your house!

Reply Posted by Norm on Friday September 27 2013 at 13:24
Some selfish uncaring folk on here. How can you support raising/saving money from ONLY council house tenants? Answer - the country is skint, get the money from anyone but me me me me me me me ...

people have been working to put a roof over their heads and food in their bellies since the begining of time,so why as it taken until now for you sad lot to want a pat on the back and made out to be martyres for doing whats always been done i dont think im any better than anyone else because i go to work,i dont even think about it i just do it,we didn't have any of this until the tories got in poisoning the minds of gullible people, well you know what i dont give a shit what someone else is or isn't doing,i dont give a monkies what my taxes pay for,at the end of the day if they dont pay for benefits they'd no doubt pay for something else some people wouldnt be happy about,as long as i have my health, ajob,a roof over my head and food in my belly im damn lucky

Reply Posted by sid on Friday September 27 2013 at 16:42
I wish I could be like you X, but I cant help it. It really pees me off when I can see some of these folk cheating and doing more of what I would like to do. Go abroad etc. They can go when and where they want, and its all paid for by me and you. Ok,food, housing etc, that dosn,t bother me really, but by god,my sister in law can work, wont work, cheats the system working on the side and goes abroad 3 times every year. That does rile me Im afraid. Plus she has fiddled her way through life for the last 15 years. GRRRRR. Plus she,s just had her teeth, and specs sorted, and she went in her car too. It does get to me. If it dos,t bug you I,m glad, but you must be a saint or flipping rich.

Reply Posted by little sprout on Friday September 27 2013 at 17:02
Sid: shop the cheating so and so.

Reply Posted by sid on Friday September 27 2013 at 17:10

Let us hope that this bunch of ragamuffins like it in Manchester and stay there. They will not be missed here.

Reply Posted by Brad on Saturday September 28 2013 at 07:37
Its a shame these low life proteters don't put the same effort in to getting a job. They might wake up and smell the coffee and live in the real world. Then again, they have no self respect looking at the state of them.

" Say YES to the Bedroom Tax"

Well done Mr Cameron. Its about time we had a prime minster who dossn't pussy foot around the benefit claimant.

Reply Posted by Norm on Saturday September 28 2013 at 13:41
You're only a diagnosis away from being one yourself and there's nothing you can do about it.

Reply Posted by Miss.N on Saturday September 28 2013 at 10:09
Norm, private renters have had it for ages so don't come with that council house tenants only crap.

This isn't a tax, it's a benefit reduction. The ONLY people I have sympathy for in this situation are people with disabilities who need the space.

As people have said previously, if you want to buy a house with more bedrooms you have to pay more, why should renting be any different?

Reply Posted by Norm on Saturday September 28 2013 at 13:27
So it's not a tax, simply removal of the 'under occupancy subsidy'. How come it only applies to council tenants? The elderly are excused, the sick and disabled in council houses are not, that's what makes it an unfair 'tax' and why I oppose it.

Folk like Sid's sister have been around for years, they are hardened scroungers, the family business is working on the side, they are it seems untouchable by the system, they are there by choice.

Miss N: "... private renters have had it for ages ...", had what exactly, bedroom tax?

Reply Posted by sid on Saturday September 28 2013 at 14:10
They haven't got a business Norm. They're just idle full stop.

Reply Posted by Norm on Saturday September 28 2013 at 16:51
I thought by your description that we were distantly related, but my cousin-in-law is buying/selling cars on the side, just like his dad, that's why I say family business - life-long dole but working on the side. He's in his 40s never had a payslip in his life but bought his council house cash and the DWP did nothing when I reported it. Like yours, 3 holidays abroad this year. However, they will continue untouched.

It was mentioned that there would be assistance for the disabled, but it seems like that pot is also empty. Meanwhile the disabled in council houses will subsidise our council tax.

Reply Posted by sid on Saturday September 28 2013 at 17:13
No Norm. Its my sister in law. When she did work full time it was cash in hand. Now she's managed to get on disability. Laughing all the way to warmer destiny's. Stinks.

Reply Posted by x on Saturday September 28 2013 at 10:27
why are you lot letting these people affect your lives so much, dont let them turn you into nasty bitter twisted people,i refuse to let them into my life in any way,sid i can understand you feeling as you do about your sister in law ,but if you allow what shes doing to eat away at you then your letting her and people like her impact on your life.we are a long time dead people stop worrying about what other people are up to and try and make the best of what you have,it could all be gone tomorrow and how sad would it be if one of the last things in your mind was some benefit scrounger.

Reply Posted by sid on Saturday September 28 2013 at 11:06
Of course I know your right X. It is difficult though wen she flipping waves at me while I'm working and she's on her way daytripping. Then she has a little brag. That's the reality, some of these folk are laughing like hell, not even behind our backs! And your right,I am getting bitter. The system stinks. She's big and idle, getting fatter by the day as they all do. They have opportunitys to join all the fitness clubs/swim/weight watchers and stuff, all the things we pay for,but they don't go.They are happy and content getting cash given to them, and if they try to look after themselves they're scared the benefits office will deem them fit for work. See,I can't help it. But, I do try to not let it get to me...failing miserably tho.

Meant no cash for Long term unemployed and we've got to start somewhere. makes my blood boil the more I read about this particular group of parasites.

Reply Posted by Jimmy on Tuesday October 1 2013 at 12:08
Were the railway staff demanding an end to fare rises and fat cat bonuses parasites? Better not let your blood boil too much, there won't be an NHS left to treat you. All you people have fallen for Tory lies and are utter fools. You are clapping the sort of people who would send us back to Victorian times. Can't you see you're being taken for a ride?

Reply Posted by Stevo on Monday September 30 2013 at 15:16
Congratulations to the 50,000 people that turned up to protest in Manchester.
People still have the right to protest, unfortunately the protestors didn't get any "airtime" on the BBC as the Tories told them that they couldn't film it due to "security" reasons.
Another blow for civil liberties at the hands of the Tory Party.
A Tory Party that is running scared methinks.

Good to hear that those shirkers/scroungers got no publicity. Let us hope that they all get dealt with for non-payment.

Reply Posted by Jimmy on Tuesday October 1 2013 at 12:00
The thousands of medical staff that turned out to protest against the dismantling of the NHS are neither shirkers nor scroungers.

Reply Posted by Tom on Tuesday October 1 2013 at 07:46
Here here. No one is intrested in seeing 50,000 idiots protesting on a sunday afternoon.

Fools!

Reply Posted by Jimmy on Tuesday October 1 2013 at 12:05
50,000 idiots Tom? No, 50,000 citizens prepared to stand up to an uncaring government intent on grinding working people into the dust. What nasty people we have in Barnsley, cheering away while the Tories get away with hammering us all. These people are the true idiots.

Reply Posted by Stevo on Tuesday October 1 2013 at 16:42
Jimmy, Jimmy you are wasting your time mate, the majority of people on here believe everything that is printed in the sun and are all on to string a sentence together never mind realise what is REALLY happening in the UK today.

Reply Posted by xxxx on Tuesday October 1 2013 at 10:58
lets hope when people start losing their jobs and being replaced by benefit claiments tom these 50,000 so called idiots are prepared to come out and support your cause.trust me if this government get in again you and i and every other low paid worker out there is going to need them and every other person who people have been so eager to slag off,

Reply Posted by Dynamic Dave on Tuesday October 1 2013 at 13:37
Lets be fair, these uneducated members of society, with limited, if any prospect for betterment are being encouraged to protest by well known, long standing communists who are regularly involved in such protests. You should have no sympathy for them.

Reply Posted by Jimmy on Tuesday October 1 2013 at 15:06
Dave, you are a moron. Surely the protestors are fighting for betterment? You and your bigoted pals want to keep working people down. This town is a shithole because of successive government policies against the working class.

Reply Posted by Dynamic Dave on Tuesday October 1 2013 at 15:58
Thank you for your kind comments.

I have no desire to keep the working class down. The town may well be a s______e, but it is not primarily due to successive government policies. You have to look much closer to home for the real reasons. If, after giving it some thought, you are able to see those reasons perhaps you will let me know.

Reply Posted by Stevo on Tuesday October 1 2013 at 16:47
So all union members are communists then?

Why do you think the unions were created by the average working man in the first place? For the laugh?
Why do you think the Labour Party was created? For the laugh?

They were both created to stop the toffs from keeping their subjects in a life of subservience and poverty.

I suggest it is you that needs an education my pedigree chum.

Reply Posted by Sue on Tuesday October 1 2013 at 17:29
Did these protesters gain anything on sunday? They didn't get much publicity if any, lol.

Reply Posted by Stevo on Tuesday October 1 2013 at 18:11
The reason they didn't get any publicity is because the Tories told the BBC that they could NOT film the demonstration due to "security issues".

Another Tory nail in the coffin for our right to free speech.

I agree Dave. If only these idiots woke up and smelt the coffee instead of listening to this idiot. Thats IF they do listen to him.

He really is a nutcase, but I do like a chuckle at his posts when I occasionally visit the website.

Reply Posted by STEVO on Thursday October 3 2013 at 07:12
Mentally unstable?

Everyone listens to me as I am "the voice of reason" unlike the vast majority of people that post on this very site.
