Pub Hopes To Charge 8p For Pints To Mark Anniversary

Friday August 30 2013

We Are Barnsley We Are Barnsley

A PUB is hoping to charge just 8p per pint to celebrate its 50th anniversary in September.

The Telstar pub in Wath on Quarry Hill Road will mark the milestone on September 7.

Landlord David Hunter said he's planning on going back to the original prices of the time for a short period on the night.

"The original landlord Pete O'Grady has been in touch and confirmed the pub opened near that date fifty years ago," he said.

"We're hoping that the brewery will come on board and then we can charge people for the 1960s cost of a pint which was eight pence.

"There will be an old theme to it with a 1960s band playing."

Brian, I think you'll find Wath is in Rotherham, maybe a geography lesson is required, maybe from someone intelligent in BARNSLEY.

C'mon g, you should know, there are no intelligent people in BARNSLEY

Well swampy and tight get I really think you should bear in mind that pubs have no choice but to charge the expensive price because of tax imposed by the government and the joy of inflation. Iv never watered down a pint as you say and we endeavour to ALWAYS give the best pint we possibly can. Yes some landlords are shishters but not all!

@swampy If you suspect landlords of watering down their beer why don't you ring Trading Standards?

And do stop moaning about the price of a pint. I live in London. It would be nice to find a pub that charges under £4 a pint!

You're a weird fish Chris. One minute you're slating Barnsley, saying everyone's fat and 18 stone, the next you can't wait to visit us,and the beers dearer in London.
The next post, all your crack houses are full of non English speaking, better educated than us junkies?,like you're bragging London off. You're playing in two camps. There's nice bits and bad bits every where, but you seem to enjoy be littling Barnsley for some reason. I'm thinking with all the posting your joining in with on our Barnsley site, you're homesick. Come back and join the Neandertha as you called them. You know there's always a welcome here,...more than can be said for the Londoners. I too have lived their. Yuk.

Sid please calm down. Your posts show you are a very educated person. I love
London but a girl was killled on Kilburn High Road last weekend. 24 years of age. This in my area. Gun crime is the norm in South Kilbun

Sid you seem educated.

OK Chris, just please remember where your roots lie. Its up to us "northerners"that do move south,as you have done,to set an example an show that we,re not all beer swilling, whippet keeping dumbo,s.
It must be petrifying living so close to gun crime and crack...stay safe.

Ah thanks Sid love. Sorry for any misunderstanding. Dead frightening in this area at the moment. I live between 2 notorious estates where gangs violence has reigned for a long time. After the fatal shooting on Kilburn High Road last week the area is being swamped by police. The girl victim was a nursery teacher out celebrating her 24th birthday. She left behind a 4yr old boy. Last night I was indoors and the police helicopter flew so low it brought everybody out of their houses. Tons of police on the street all of the time.
