Councillors Want Influx Of Jobs To Go To Locals

Monday September 2 2013

Ralph Sixsmith Ralph Sixsmith

COUNCILLORS are striving to be 'a step ahead' when it comes to ensuring new jobs coming to the area go to local people.

Upon completion, the Aldi depot in Goldthorpe is expected to create between 300 and 400 new jobs. The depot is scheduled for completion for the back end of next year.

Cllr Ralph Sixsmith wants to ensure young people and the long-term unemployed are capable of doing jobs there by the time Aldi begins recruiting.

"We shall be seeking to see what Aldi want and need in terms of qualifications for jobs at their depot," said Cllr Sixsmith.

"There are going to be a lot of jobs created there and we want to make sure that people in the Dearne are capable of doing them.

"Whether it be a basic qualification in English and maths or the ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) we would look to get them qualified before the recruiting starts."

Well done on forward thing Barnsley.

How about making a condition of the planning permission that local contractors/firms are also used in the construction of the depot?
Well done on forward thing Barnsley.

Just ensure that 100% of the jobs go to not only local people but people that were born and bred in this country councillor.

That's a great start, jobs for local people. Now our councillors and MPs should begin a campaign for all workers to get a decent living wage.

My my, what brilliant news. Some sense at last. Grimethorpe Asda has local people working there, and that good. Let's hope Aldi follow suit. Great news

It's simple if Aldi don't employee local people. Then local people don't use Aldi.

The jobs will go to locals. Locals of Gdansk and Warsaw.

there's nothing wrong with the Polish working for their living, you'd complain if they were 'sponging off the rest of you lot'

Reply Posted by Stevo on Thursday September 5 2013 at 16:09
Theoretically speaking they are "sponging off the rest of us".
Who do you think pays their wages? The Polish Government?
Who do you think pays for their dependant children child benefits? The Polish Government?

And more importantly why do you think they are here? For the laugh?

They are here for one thing and one thing only MONEY, OUR MONEY, MONEY that they are taking out of OUR POCKETS!
MONEY that they are sending back home to their families back in Poland taking MONEY out of OUR ECONOMY.

the polish that come here are known as sventan poles they are the leftovers from the war that germany didnt want so poland ended up putting them in their own region. They dont work in their own country they are known as the scum of poland so they dont care they let them come here they are glad to get rid theyve been trying since 1945.They work here for 6 months get housed and claim tax credits to send home to their children now i know i live in highgate but even no one here has 4 kids at the age of 18. the reason i am saying this is my father in law is from poland he came here in 1946 and the region he is from krakow do not accept these people into their town for some reason or another anyhow the money they get goes back to poland it doesnt stay here so they are of no benefit whatsoever to us especially goldthorpe.

qualifications needed ? 1. get there on time. 2. work. 3. repeat. never going to happen, these big companies do not care where your from as long as you do the above. Which by the way most of the "locals" will fail. Not slagging "us off" but thses eastern europeans are like robots, they know what its like to truly have nothing you cant blame them, we did the same years ago, when a lot of builders went to Germany. it will probably end up like ASOS high turnover of "locals" eventualy employing europeans as they will put up with crap pay and conditions.

anon i would love to know the name of this decent councillor as ive been up here 20 yrs and the place has gone to hell and kept going down they only bother with the place when theres an election coming up and they look as miserable as sin when theyre pushing their crap through the door. If anyone needs any help other than dealing with bernslai homes or whatever its called they run a mile in the other direction, they cannot deal with proper issues. Plus most of them campaigned against aldi in the first place because some people can put food on their table by looking at a field through their kitchen windows.

You're not from round here!. That's all I ever here from you thick, uneducated Barnsley area locals. You are the most ignorant, bigoted, lazy people in this whole country. Most of you can hardly string a sentence together, you hate anyone who isn't from 'round here', and most of you think the world owes you a living. I tell you idiots one thing - I find most foreign people to be a damn sight more friendly and hard working than you locals. And look at the thicko's in Goldthorpe when Thatcher died. Parading an effigy round the village. The witch is dead. Pathetic. If the lazy miners had done a bit more work instead of covering for one another down the pit while they had a sleep, then your pits would have been economical. And anyway, what are you moaning about? Most of you got what you wanted - a lazy life on benefits, sponging off the working man while you are down the 'working mens' club. And thats a bloody joke in itself - 'working men'. What, in South Yorkshire? Don't make me laugh.
I hope ALDI has the sense to realise that you 'locals' are lazy, good for nothing and ignorant, and gets the staff they need from Poland. At least Polish people are decent and hard working. You locals make me sick. And no - I'm not from round here. THANK GOD!
