Man 'Guilty As Sin' After Police Call

Friday August 30 2013

Barnsley Magistrates' Court Barnsley Magistrates' Court

A MAN admitted he was 'as guilty as sin' when police found £100 worth of cannabis in a wheelie bin, Barnsley Magistrates' Court was told.

Paul Alan Roberts, 48, of Calder Crescent, kept the drugs in the bin so they were out of the way from his grandchildren when they visited, said Julie Grant, prosecuting.

Alan Greaves, defending, said Roberts was a long-term cannabis user. He said the drugs helped him cope with health problems.

Police turned up at his home after getting a call from someone.

Roberts, who admitted possession of cannabis, was given a 12-month conditional discharge, ordered to pay £85 in costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

Lock him up and throw away the key! Oh hold on, thats just utter b*llox, sorry. Decriminalise cannabis use, and stop arresting decent people who like a smoke instead of a beer! You don't see stoners beating eachother up in the streets after a particularly heavy bong sesh! :) The war on drugs is there to create revenue and exert control, end of story. If it costs the lives of a load of good people, often hard working, and all the other erroneous good traits people seem to value these days, then so be it. It teaches you to accept that you don't have to do all the time, sometimes just being is actually quite acceptable. Being, thinking, considering, meditating. We can't have people thinking though now can we. They might wake up and realise that they live in a prison, where they are told what to do by someone without any authority to do so...lol Baaaaaaah! :)

'decriminalise' cannabis really??get a grip man!!

Haha I agree wholeheartedly with you Rothschild. I've never smoked the stuff myself as don't like it (tried it as a teenager) but I also don't drink alcohol as I despise the effects of it and what it makes people, and I know for a fact I would choose to be around around people stoned than people wrecked on alcohol, falling all over, fighting, puking, getting naked, having sex with anyone who walks... Hmm and when would you ever see someone on weed acting like that?? Flyonthewall, you need to get a grip! Another uneducated opinion, and my opinion is totally unbiased as I don't touch alcohol or drugs :) I just use my noggin to really see which one of the two should be banned and illegal. I know some people who smoke weed maybe a couple of times every week who earn a good wage, have a gorgeous house, and car (one of my friends is even a nurse)... And then I know of alcoholics who are scum of the earth, stink, and don't work... I wonder hey!

i also know of people who drink and have a lovely home and work, and people who use weed every day and have nothing its got nothing to do with it being weed or drink its if they use or abuse whatever they use, xx

Cigarettes kill. Drink rots your liver. What makes cannabis wrong. Bloody politicians who know sod all about it. What a stupid law.

I do not smoke it but i know people who do. I think that cannabis being an illegal drug is nothing but a complete waste of police time. A friend of mine was growing a plant of his own and got 'busted' on what must have been a tip off. 15 police officers, 4 police cars, 2 police vans and a warrant showed up at his home and spent 6 hours there, just for one plant. I wonder how much that cost the police force that day for the sake of the caution he got issued with.

It isn't all that bad. Made a fortune on my house for a start. I actually feel safer down here walking around late at night than I ever did in Barnsley. At least you don't get Neanderthals sounding their car horns at a females walking by.

That's nice for you then. And we don't have crack houses, cops that don't give a dam,and classrooms full of kids that can't even talk to each other. There's good and bad everywhere. And our Neanderthals arnt as educated as yours, while they're driving around our relatively open roads, whilst being able to afford a car, insurance, etc. At least the females aren't prozzys as seems to be the case in London.
You stay there chris, someone has to live there I suppose.
Not being cocky, but both places are vastly differant, and you have the advantage of living in both places. If you prefer London,so be it. But don't enjoy,in a mocking, nasty way what I,m assuming may be where your roots lie.

All the females in London are prozzy's?!!!!!! You sound like a charmer. The type who expects 'his lass' to have his dinner on the table every night. Probably size 18 too.

You know Chris, hope you don't get too comfy down there, after all, to"the london set",you'll always be known as "that thick northerner".
And it sounds as if you're a poor ambassador for your heritage, probably mocking us at every opportunity...just to make a few "friends"
Hope you find the streets are paved with gold, but along the way,it would be nice of you to enlighten the Londoners that not all Yorkshire people are of the same mentality as the ones you obviously associated with. You know that to be true. You should be proud of your roots wherever they are,and not slate the place you come from. Haha..wait until the train comes. If we do have any reason to pop down there,we,all be able to race home at great speed, can,t wait. Tarrarrar an si thi.

Rothschild you must be one of the only person in barnsley with some common sense. most of these dimwits on here only belive the stupid propaganda they see on BBC. More people die each year from alcohol and cigs whitch is raping our nhs keeping them alive. But will they ban tobbaco or alcohol no because it makes the government to much money. And you don't see stoners brawling in the streets causing trouble, if you want to smoke it you should be allowed without the fear of been arrested. And as for mental health issues that is down to each individual person and how they live there life, if your depressed then having a j probly isn't the best idea.

Yeah so weed is ok, get real, people pinch to fund the habit. Which includes attacking the elderly in their homes or are you going to deny that this happens. Drugs destroys lives in more ways than one.

Are you a complete moron or are you just incapable of reading up on a subject before spouting pure bullshit about it? If you had taken any time to research cannabis you would have found that it is not physically addictive, therefore you do not experience withdrawal when you do not smoke. This renders your 'people pinch to fund the habit' statement completely fallacious, this is the kind of thing people were brainwashed to believe in the 1930's when 'Reefer Madness' came out. And if you don't know what that is I suggest you look it up, as any intelligent human being will tell you, you must have some knowledge of what you are arguing for or against in order for your view to be taken seriously.

It disgusts me that people like you still open your mouths and let this utter shite pour out, when people are rotting in prisons because they prefer a substance that is safer than coffee, and people who are denied cannabis as a medicine to relieve pains of certain illnesses are dying in agony.

It has become increasingly clear that the War On Drugs has been a catastrophic failure, killing millions of innocent men, women and children around the world. Costing you the taxpayer millions of pounds and preventing the world of science and medicine to progress in finding even more uses for the incredible plant. Soon enough the uninformed, misguided people like yourself will be outnumbered and the sick, hypocritical, nonsensical War On Drugs will end.

Barnsley is full of druggies thats just The'Norm" these days. What i find really disturbing is the fact that a lot of them are MIDDLE AGED! How embarrassing! Think they need to grow up.

Reply Posted by Kathy on Thursday September 5 2013 at 23:31
I should imagine that middle aged folk that take drugs do so because they realise they are middle aged and still living in Barnsley!
