Reds Let Two-Goal Lead Slip

THE Reds let a two-goal lead slip and are still searching for their first win of the season after drawing 2-2 with Charlton on Saturday.

After failing to score in their first three games, Chris O'Grady scored either side of the interval but Charlton pulled one back through Jordan Cousins in the 64th minute, before Simon Church equalised eight minutes later.

O'Grady's first came after a fine pass from Scott Golbourne, while his second was a header after a brilliant cross from highly-rated midfielder Jacob Mellis.

"At 2-0 up we fully dominated the game but the game management was poor," said David Flitcroft.

"They lost composure, that disappointed me. On the positive side we created a lot of chances in the first half. Charlton are a good Championship team and we have dominated them.

"Our display in the first half was as good as I have seen. The synergy between the defence and midfield was excellent but we have to be more ruthless, as at 2-0 up we felt comfortable."

The Reds will look to register their first three points against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

Entirely down to a shockingly bad decision by David Flitcroft. Taking Mellis off and replacing him with Digby was a foolish thing to do. At that point we conceded the initiative to Charlton. Had the game lasted a further fifteen minutes it is likely that we would have lost the match.

Despite all the hype, Mr Digby is not quite ready for first team football, although he is a reasonably good prospect for the future.
