Young Star Stays At Oakwell Despite Old Trafford Interest

A 15-YEAR-OLD Reds star tipped as the next John Stones has turned down a chance to join Manchester United.

James Bree spent three weeks with the Premier League champions and the Old Trafford club were prepared to pay a 'substantial' fee to Barnsley.

But Bree, a versatile defender who can also play in midfield, has rejected United's offer, believing he has better prospects of first team football at Oakwell.

"I've been here for four seasons now and love it," he said. "I feel at home and believe it's the right place for me to develop."

Ronnie Branson, Barnsley Academy's director, said: "We would have got substantial money but we're delighted James is staying.

"When the big boys come knocking there's nothing we can do other than hope the players want to stay.

"James is similar to John Stones. He's looked at what we've done with the likes of Stonesy and Jacob Butterfield and realised this is the place for him."
